Pi Beta Phi is rich in history. It was the first fraternity founded
for women on April 28, 1867 at Monmouth College
in Monmouth, Illinois under
the name I.C. Sorosis. Its founders were 12 young women looking for
something more to life.

was one of the first of seven founding groups of the Panhellenic Conference.

was the first to recognize the joy found in service to others expressed
in the organization of the first national philanthropic project.

was the first to recognize the service and value of alumnae with the founding
of alumnae clubs.

was the first to recognize the value of mature guidance by establishing
an alumnae advisory committee.
Pi Beta Phi
was the first to use contemporary concepts in chapter development programming.
Indiana Zeta
was founded August 23, 1952 on the campus of Ball State University.
They were previously known as the local sorority Gamma Gamma.
