ODE TO PIZZA HUT

Composed at Woolloongabba Busway station when I needed to cheer myself up with something silly.

Oh Pizza Hut! Oh Pizza Hut!

So many pizzas do you cook.

Always ready to listen to my order

as soon as you’ve shouted the special.

You ask if I’d like garlic bread and cheesecake

and I politely refuse

for you are not the Cheesecake Hut;

for you are not the Garlic Bread Hut.

It is for pizza that I call unto Thee

for my dough base, cheese and pepperon-ee.

You cannot put cheesecake on pizza;

you can only eat it afterwards.

And if the pizza is thrown away

(as happens so many times a day

at your Express outlets),

then so must the cheesecake be also.
