Making it
By Michael Bailey Smith Throughout my web site I talk about "Making it". What is "making it?" Every actor's definition of "making it" is different. I've been at this since 1990. I've done a lot of work and I've been very fortunate. But have I made it? To some people, yes, but for me, no. Ok, yeah, I could keep playing the right-hand man to the lead bad guy and I could keep doing Guest Star and Co-Star parts on TV. But for me, deep down inside, that's not my definition of "making it". "Making it" for me goes like this: TO STAR IN MY OWN FILMS. To do quality work that entertains and moves people, whether it be laughing or crying or sending them on a roller coaster ride of experiences. That's my honest definition of "making it". Now don't get me wrong. I love playing the right- hand man of to lead bad guy and I love doing Guest Star and Co-Star parts on TV. But for me these are all building blocks to "making it." Each Film or TV, how I do makes me that much more 'well known' in this business and to the public. I mean, let's be honest here. How many of you are going to pay eight bucks to see me starring in a movie? Besides my parents and maybe some of my friends, zero. So, like most actors in Hollywood, I have to build my name and that's done through exposure in smaller roles in both TV and Film. You just have to keep building your name with the building blocks until you get a shot at starring in your own movies. |
