Holly was born on December 3, 1973 in San Diego, California. At the time Holly's mother Lauralei was only 15 years old, and her father only 17! They dropped out of high school, but actually divorced two years later, Lauralei said they were too young.

When Holly was 8 she moved to New York with her mother and started at The Professional Children's School, to follow her mother's footsteps as an actress. When Holly was 12 Lauralei married her stepfather. They lived in cramped apartments, Lauralei held down modeling and waitressing jobs to help pay the bills and Holly's stepfather worked as a bartender. Holly remember that the worst place they lived in was in a teensy studio in Manhattan with their Siberian Husky, Wiley, when Holly was a teenager. He parent's couldn't refuse the dog because it was from Don Johnson even though they knew it was impractical with such a big one in NY. She says that "I had a loft, and my parents' bed was underneath. You could only be alone in the bathroom. I don't know how we did it!" Holly was very shy as a teenager, and also a bit of a rebel. She was the angriest little person imaginable, wore black all the time, barely talked and woke up with a frown every morning. When she was sixteen she came home with her tattoos, and the meaning was to anger her parents, but her step father said "Oh, I want one like that." The rebillious stage faided away with the years though.

Holly's carrer started at the age of 10, working in commercials and print ads. Her first role was in 1988 in the movie Sweet Heart's Dance starring Don Johnson and Susan Sarandon. She played their daughter, Debs Boon. She also played Jenny in Oliver Stone's Born on The Fourth Of July in 1989. Holly is best known for her role as Kimberly Brock in Picket Fences (1992-1996). In that tv-series Kimberly only aged from 16 to 18. When Holly had to kiss a girl in it, the story even landed in the newspapers! But its producer David E. Kelley actuallt told Holly she didn't have a "big enough heart" after her audition. So she did what came naturally, she told him off and said "I just came off the subway, and you can't have a big heart on the subway. If you're looking for someone with a big heart, what the hell are you doing in New York?" Two weeks later, Kelley kalled Holly and told her she had got the role.

Holly hates being naked in movies, although she has declared "I've only been topless once, in one film. And there are all of these other pictures floating around that aren't me. I'm almost okay with the one picture that is me, because what am I going to do? It is me and I actually did do it, But I didn't think at the time they would free-frame it into 15 different pictures!"

In 1998, when Holly was at her best friend Shannen Doherty's, she found out that she had gotten the role as Piper Halliwell in Aaron Spelling's tv-show Charmed. Both Shannen and her screamed for joy!
