Well if you made it this far, you have not only my thanks, but my congradualtions as well. As I am sure you have figured out, I by no means posess the most graceful of pens. And if you go beyond this point, you will most definatly have my sincerest gradititude. This has been one of the funnest undertakings I've ever commited to.
As any good, (or not so good) conductor will tell you, it is not the conductor who makes a piece of music sound great. The strength lies in the score and the musicians. The conductor simply stands upon the shoulders of whomever it was that wrote the music. All the conductor does, is direct the audience's attention where it needs to be.
I am no differnt than a conductor. I've got the easy part. The score was already there. I merely presented it to you.
And honestly, I just scratched the surface. If you've played the game, you know how intricatly woven it is. I do not posess the skill to take everything that happens to you on the sreen while you play, and put it into words.
I did have a fun time trying though.
I think I was perhaps in second third grade when I realized that
I liked Zelda. I don't know why. Something about Link fighting a seemingly impossible battle grabbed me by the throat and refused to let go. Something about our young hero, having to free his beloved Hyrule, and Princess Zelda, kept me up all night. And when I did get to sleep, I'd dream about it. Nintendo Power refers to that as mind candy. What ever it was, I could not get enough.
It was in seventh grade that I realized that I like to write. Mrs. Matzat, my advanced reading teacher, assigned us to do a short story. For an adolsecent who had never written anything longer than an essay, the notion seemed a bit formidable. Yet for some reason I jumped right in, monthes before the assignment was actually given.
I wrote a story called 'The Wolf in the Storm' It was about a young hero was chosen to retrieve a sword so the people would rally around him. After he did this, he'd have to rescue a princess from an evil king who took over a country.
Sound familiar?
Even after the assignment was finished, I still continued to tell the tale. I figured that sometime down the road, I'd get it, or something eles published. Then I also thought, 'Hey that'd be cool to write about Link and Zelda'
But I figured I'd do it after I became an established author. Link when I was older. But in this day and age, I just figured, Hey, why not. So here it is.
Here are a few things you may not have known.
Sage Tellah, who takes care of Link and Zelda in the sanctuary, is the same Sage Tellah from Final Fantasy II. Although in FF, he was much more grisled. I just ove his immortal line, 'YOU SPOONY BARD!!!!!!' I supose there was a bit of a perverted pleasure in seeing him die for second time.
The pale King who takes Link where Zelda is dreaming, is none other than Neil Gaiman's Sandman. I just thought that would've been cool. I also considered having Swamp Thing show up as an Alan Moore homage, but I thought the better of it.
I almost called Chapter XV 'Rock of Ages' That's my all time favourite song, and that's what I was going for in the first part of it. I considered calling Chapter XVIII a number of differnt titles. One was 'The Valley of the Shadow of Death. Another was Valley of Elah, which is where David fought Goliath. I was very tempted to call Chapter IXX, 'Armeggeddon' After all, that is what it was, The final showdown between Good and Evil. But I felt that it w as a bit overused, and almost always out of contest. 'Dies Irae' litteraly means 'Day of Wrath', or 'Day of Reckoning' usually it is reffered to at the Judgement Day.
Another thing I feel worth mentioning is about Link and Zelda's middle names. Link's is Erdirch, and Zelda's is Gwaelin. This was a Dragon Warrior homage. As far as we know, Link and Zelda belong to the same line as the Dragon Warriors.
Anyways I could give you tons more, but I'm sure by now you've had your fill of what I've had to say.
God bless and Peace be with you.
