My name is Sylvia Williams. I am from Hollandale. I will graduate in May with my MEd in school/community counsling.
Students in grades K to 8 have been exposed to social skills training, drug awareness, and character development.
Character Development
Tech Prep
The 6th grade presented a play on Character in December. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls plan to visit shut-ins in Inverness in the spring.
The 7th and 8th grade spend 30 minutes every other week in Tech Prep activities. These activities assist in career awareness/development.
Student Assistance Program
A student assistance program is being implemented with Mrs. Raymond, Mrs. Matthews, and myself serving on the committee. The program will help decrease school dropouts, improve grade point averages, and reduce behavior problems in school. The program is new and will take time to implement successfully. Students who are displaying problems will be referred to mental health specialists if refferred by the committee members.
Therapy
We use several different therapy techniques in my classroom. One type of therapy used is play therapy. This type therapy was used with children individually. I plan to use play therapy, art therapy, and anger management skills as needed with children in the upper and lower grades.
