The animation below shows a spaceship resting on a small asteroid. The asteroid
is moving through space at a velocity v in a straight line. The observer
is moving at zero velocity w.r.t the asteroid. The spaceship fires its rockets for a brief moment and takes off from the asteroid. The velocity it reaches is sufficient to escape from the gavitational pull of the asteroid. After spaceship leaves, a laser fires a photon in a direction parallel to the spaceship. Does the picture accurately depict reality as predicted by SRT as well as Newtonian mechanics? The answers at this stage will determine the result of the next experiment with the asteroid moving w.r.t. the observer. What will the observer see? |
