The Covenant

The Covenant of the Broken Tower has stood for some four hundred years, it was one of the first Hermetic covenants in Engalnd, it was pivotal in the schism war, it has been home to some of the mightiest Magi ever to grace the stonehenge tribunal, it is now reduced to a shadow of its former self, home to outcasts and madmen. However all things change, and often the winter will give way to a new spring.

Covenant Characteristics

SITE

Access:
Average Supplies (that is to say, roughly equivalent to the peasentry) (0)
40% of supplies within 1 weeks travel (you have to trek a long way into Durham for the more obscure bits of kit) (-4)

Seclusion: Balencing out the "Out in the middle of Nowhere" factor and the "Ooh, its a cool magical tower" factor, you're looking at a visitor every couple of months (3)

Environment: There's no particularly special features here not covered elsewhere, so we're looking at (0)

BUILDINGS

Size: There is room at the covenant for 9 Magi, 20 specialists and 50 grogs (there probably used to be more, but a lot of it has fallen in). Note that this means until the Hedgehog-Bjornaer fell into final twilight one of you (probably Jen, since she's the ultimate bad student) was probably sans-lab. (3)

Repair: You're needing to spend about 10 a year on repairs to keep the buildings together (-1)

Overall 6 positive and 5 negative points spent so far.

DEFENSES

Site: gentle slopes on all sides(4), however there is an approach road on one side (-1) and cover (in the form of woods and folds in the ground) in all directions (-4).

Extent: Everything is protected somehow, and you have one free elaborate structure, which takes the form of a crumbling battlemented wall. 0

Repair: Like your buildings in general, your defences eat about 20 a year in repair costs. (-2)

Overall then another 4 positive and 7 negative points spent, for a total so far of 10 positive, 12 negative.

STORES

Vis Stocks: While you have a decent vis supply, your elders and predecessors have a tendancy to burn through the stuff rapidly in their insane experimentations. As a result you have the standard 100 pawns of Vis in stock (0)

Supplies: Beyond standard stores of food, you don't really have anything saved up. (0)

Reputation: A 3 point reputation as a covenant full of maniacs and weirdoes, amongst the Order (-6)

Total then of 6 negative points on stores, bringing the running total to 10 positive, 18 negative.

RELATIONS

Allies: Most of the Covenant's allies have dwindled away over the years. You still have occasional contact with the Covenant of the Splintered Crag, a Winter Covenant in the Loch Leglan tribunal (1)

Enemies: Your enemies, on the other hand, are no fewer than ever they were. The Prince-Bishop of Durham dislikes the order and dislikes you even more (-7). Sir Andrew Mortimer, a landed knight of the Welsh Marches, really seems to have it in for you for reasons you aren't entirely sure of (-5). Simon de Clare (baron in Tynedale, nephew to the Earl of Gloucester) doesn't like you much either (-4).

Contacts: The Prior of Durham Abbey quite likes you and is generally sympathetic towards magi (on the quiet of course) (2). Reynold de Braose, a prominent noble of Marcher Wales, will occasionally answer your letters (1). On the other hand you have spies in the covenant. Serious spies (-6).

That comes to 4 positive points and a massive 22 negative points spent here bringing your total to 14 positive, 40 negative.

IMPROVEMENT

Income: You don't have much, and what you do have goes on repairs. (0)

Vis Supply: You're relatively well stocked here, pulling in about 45 pawns of vis a year. (3)

Inhabitants: 9 Magi and the standard compliment of Grogs and Specialists (0)

Total now, 13 positive, 40 negative.

LIBRARY

These stats exclude the personal libraries of any Magi still resident.

Spells: Years of research and so on by generations of magi has left you with 3000 levels of spells, many of which may even be useful (5)

Hermetic Books: Well stocked after years of use, you have 900 points worth of Hermetic Texts (5)

Mundane Books: As the covenant slides towards winter, its members have taken less and less interest in mundane affairs, so you have only 300 points of Mundane books.

27 Positive, 40 Negative spent so far

MYSTICAL ATTRIBUTES

Aura: +7, at a cost of 10 points

Items: 125 points of positive items (3) and a sodding great 750 points of baleful items (-10)

Total 40 positive, 50 negative.
