Episode 1: The Nightmare Begins

Operation: Impending Doom II is starting, and in order to start it, the Almighty Tallest, the rulers of Irk, must assign invaders to planets. But just as the Great Assigning is ending, someone unexpected shows up- Zim! After stomping his home planet in a robot he started up just a tad bit too early, he was banished to Foodcourtia, but apparently he "quit when [he] heard about this." He demands a planet, so in an attempt to get rid of him, they say they're giving him a mystery planet (really just a planet they taped to the edge of a map). They also give Zim a robot, supposedly an "advanced model" of a SIR. However, Gir, as the robot is called, is little more than some trash thrown together by the Almighty Tallest in a couple seconds. Gir is far from advanced, probably closer to insane. However, he is extremely cute, and sings the infamous "Doom song."
While all of this is going on, Dib is on his roof, listening in over a transmission. He freaks out and runs down to tell his dad that "they're coming," but his dad ignores him. He tries telling Gaz, but she's playing GameSlave and couldn't really care less.
Zim finally arrives at Earth (after six months of Gir singing the Doom song). He builds himself a human home (complete with lawn gnomes). He then proceeds to create a costume for himself. The first two are "too ugly" and "too stinky." (Those two are also Jhonan Vasquez, the show's creator, and Steve Russel, his producer.) The third one, however, he likes. (It's just him with human eyes and a wig.) He then creates Gir's costume (a green dog with black paws and a very visible zipper).
The next day when he arrives at skool, he is put in Ms. Bitters class. Dib sees him and freaks, because he knows that Zim is one of the aliens he heard over the transmission months ago. He starts shouting about how Zim is an alien, but it seems people have heard this speech one too many times, so no one believes him. After skool, Dib chases Zim, trying to catch him so he can put some "alien handcuffs" on him, which are supposed to render an alien unconcious. Zim gets home (with the aid of Gir's jets) and locks himself in. Dib isn't fazed, though, and says he'll wait outside until Zim comes out. However, when his handcuffs are vaporized by Zim's lawn gnomes, he seems to change his mind. He leaves, and Zim goes down to his lab (courtesy to the toilet in his kitchen) to report to the Tallest, who are very surprised to see Zim on the screen. After all, they sent him to a "secret planet" that they didn't even think existed. 1
