//Seven days.I've been down here for seven days//

Looking up at the top of the well,Miroku saw a ring a sunlight shining around the stone cover.It was the only light he had and it wasn't much.Reason told him he should be gratful,not being able to see himself.He could only imagine how he looking after spending seven days in a cold well,half submerged in water.The water wasn't that deep,that was the only reason the Miroku didn't drown when he fell asleep.When he stood up,the water only reached his knees.He had plenty of room to sit,but didn't because of the water.Instead Miroku leaned against the wall,only sitting when he lost the energy to stand.Every bone in his body ached doing so,but it was what he had to do to keep from getting too cold.He kept telling himself that it would be over soon,but didn't know how he was going to get out.There was no escape here,only.........

//I'm going to die//

Miroku found it ironic,that he had spent his entire life knowing his death would be early and then being shocked when it was near.Maybe he wasn't shocked,but he was certainly surprised.He had always believed that it would be the Kaze Anna that would bring his demise,he would've never thought of dying slowly in a well.

//Still,either way,Naraku caused it//

He had spent the last seven days wondering why Naraku didn't kill him when he caught him.It seemed like Naraku just wanted him out of the way,letting the well kill him instead of wasting his time doing it himself.Miroku looked up again at the ring of light.

//So this is what I'm going to see for the rest of my life//

The ring suddenly moved,one side becoming thicker.The well was being opened,or maybe the gates to the after-life were opening.Miroku felt his body become heavy,he was passing out again.As he slid down the wall and into the cold water,he heard voices.Maybe it was his father and grandfather,telling him he had failed.But as he lost consiousness,Miroku heard three voices clearly and what they were saying.

"He's down there,I see him"

"Hachi,get the rope ladder"

"I hope we're not too late"

Meanwhile,in Kaede's hut The four of them sat in silence. They had been that way since the night before.Kagome spoke to Sango,but only to ask a question of some sort.There seemed to be a invisible wall between the four humans,between the boys and the girls.In the middle of it was Shippo.Like Sango,he had no idea about what Kagome had seen and didn't want to ask.The girl had gone into hysterics when she had came to after fainting,and needed Kaede to give her some herbs to calm her down.Speaking of herbs,Shippo had briefly smelt an unusual one on Miroku.He didn't smell it for long after that,cause the scent went away after he sniffed a few times.Maybe he imagined it,but there was no such thing as imagining scents,right?

"I'm going out for some air,it is kinda stuffy in here" Miroku broke the silence,walking out of the hut.Shippo followed him,wanting to ask about the herb.Bounding silently after the monk,Shippo caught up with Miroku and hopped up unto his shoulder.

"Hey,Miroku,what kinda herb is that?"

"Ahh!" The monk jumped, surprised it seemed.He turned to look at the kitsune on his shoulder,looking even more surprised.It was as if Miroku was shocked to see him there.

"Whats wrong, did I scare you?" Shippo had thought Miroku wasn't afraid of anything. Maybe it was something else. Miroku had been acting strange all week. He remembered when Kagome had "sat" Inuyasha for calling her a name, and the monk seemed shocked when the hanyou was slammed unto the ground face-first. He had seen Inuyasha being "sat"at least a hundred times before, it should have been nothing new to him.

"Oh, you just startled me,little Shippo" the monk replied simply,as if nothing had happened.Shippo looked at him strangly.Miroku had never called him "little",though he often treated him like a kid when covering his eyes sometimes when something was happening between Kagome and Inuyasha.The monk's eyes stared out onto the path,catching the sunlight between the gaps in the leaves overhead.As he walked into a gap in the trees,Miroku's eyes turned a light violet and then a light crimson.They stayed that way for a few seconds,before turning back.It had all happened so fast that Shippo wasn't even sure that he actually saw it.

//Did his eyes just turn red, or was it my imagination?//

***************************************************************

It was mid-day,but Mushin wasn't drinking like he usually did.His focus had to be on the two young men that were currently staying at his temple.The one laying before him was the one he was most concerned about,the one they had just brought up out of a well.Miroku was not in the best of shapes right now,the seven days trapped inside the well had left him barley alive.Even though he was out of the well, Miroku wasn't out of death's cold hands yet.

The other young man was the one who had been even nearer to death when Mushin had found him.It was two moons ago,when he had been called to the Hitome castle.He had been told that the young lord of the castle had grown sick and wasn't getting any better.Mushin had agreed to see what he could do,and flew to the lord's lands the next day on Hachi.It was while walking the short distance to the castle from where the tanuki landed,that he found what appeared to be a dead body.It was a young man with long black hair,whitch was a tangled mess.His hands were bloodied,almost shredded to pieces.Even worse was the puddle of blood forming around his head.Mushin thought briefly of giving the man a proper burial before proceeding to the castle,but a weak voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Help me"

There was no one else around, so the only source of the voice Mushin could think of was the "dead" body.Turning it gently over,he saw the source of the puddle of blood.The young man's left eye socket was full of blood,the actual eye wasn't even visible.Not wanting to just leave the man there to bleed to death,Mushin took him back to his temple,giving one of the lord's servants some herbs and a excuse.He would have to go back another time.

//At least he is doing better.//

The eye injury wasn't a serious,once all the blood had been cleared.Now he only wore a eye patch to protect the stitching over his eye-lid,he would be able to see out of his left eye in a few months.What worries Mushin the most about him was not any of his injuries,but his story on how he got the injuries.He had told Mushin about how a demon had lead him to believe that it was his father,and told him about a well where a spider demon had made its nest.This spider demon had impersonated his father and had sent for a group of demon exterminators,whom were killed when the spider took control of one of them.He had managed to sneak up behind the demon and kill it but had been two late to save the last two of the exterminators,a girl and a young boy.Ordering for them to be buried,he went back into the castle.It was there that he found his "father",who lead him outside.When they had gotten to the well,his father transformed into a exact copy of himself,and threw him down the well.

"So,"Mushin had said after the young man had finished telling him the story "If this demon is in the castle, then the lord is in danger"

"No,he isn't"the young man seemed to be hiding something

"Wait.Who are you anyway?"Mushin had forgotten to ask the man his name,he didn't think it was a important until now.

"My name?" the young man looked extremely sad as he said this "Hitome Kagewaki "

//So the lord isn't in danger because he's here. But who is at the castle. A demon that can change form.........//

"Naraku" Mushin said it out loud.

It was after Mushin had explained to him who and what Naraku was that Kagewaki had left. Two weeks had passed.It was yesterday that he had returned,and he had some interesting news.

"When I was passing the well, then one on the east side of the grounds,I heard someone breathing down there.There was also a large stone over it."

It sounded extremely strange that the well had been covered by a large stone, so Mushin went to investigate. The stone was huge, and probably to heavy for a human to lift.It had to be the work of a demon.It was a good thing to have Hachi with him,because it would have been impossibe for him to move it.Surley enough,Kagewaki had been right,someone was down there.

Miroku

So now the boy lay there,covered in blankets,running a fever.He wasn't out of the woods yet,so to speak.He would've definitley died if he had spent one more day down in that well.Now it was a matter of time for his body to react to the medicine that he had been given.Hopefully,that would be before his illness claimed his life.it was going to be a long day,Mushin knew it.

//I need a drink//

AN: Nope, no lemon in this chapter. I'll put the lemon at the end. Whew! This was killer! Writing when you have writer's block is like smoking when you have an upper respitory infection!

Oh, yeah. There was a reference to "The Ring" in here, and there will be one in the next chapter. Don't ask why I put these references in, but please review.
