The 'Experience an Inuksuk'
presentation supports The Ontario Curriculum (both elementary and secondary:
Aboriginal people and culture; Canadian Social Studies, History & Geography;
and Language - writing and visual communication)
On a typical school
visit Mary spends the day at a school and makes two or three presentations
in an auditorium or library setting. If there is time during the day she
also visits classrooms, meets with groups of young writers and signs books.
As well, Mary sometimes speaks about how she got started writing, shows
her books and research, samples, and demonstrates the steps in the making
of a book. Mary will tailor the program to the age and interest of the
audience.
"Mary's presentation provides
more than just information on the inuksuk: gorgeous paintings of the Arctic
landscape, old photographs from Inuit life, her lyrical manner of speaking,
and the hands-on experience of building an inuksuk."
