  What is the WEL Energy Trust
  WEL Energy Trust was created following legislation which resulted in privatisation of the New Zealand electrical supply industry and set up following a public submission process in 1993.


It is a publicly elected body which holds a majority of the shares in WEL Energy Group,
administering this 94%share holding on behalf of the community.

As part of its functions the Trust may distribute income derived from WEL Energy Group dividends and other investments.

Each year the Trust will decide whether it is appropriate to distribute funds in the form of grants and how much should be made available.

  Who may apply
  Any person or organisation within the WEL Energy Trust region (defined in the Trust Deed and shown on the map) may apply for a grant from the Trust.

However, the application must be for a project which is community and/or regional or energy related.

  How to apply
  Applications must be made on forms which are available from the WEL Energy Trust office, or on our website http.//www.energy-trust.co.nz/

Where applicable local organisations and groups must have their application supported or endorsed by their regional office. e.g. A Waikato association of the activity concerned.

The term "project" in this brochure is intended to include both projects and programmes.

  Essential project criteria
  Projects must be:-

Community/regional; or

-

Energy related

-

Council recommended

-

Available to a range of people in the community with benefits mainly within the Trust
region.

  Partial Funding
  The Trust will consider partial funding of specific stages of a project, especially in relation to energy related projects.
 

F

  Activities that will not be funded

Completed projects

-

Projects which have already been recommended by the Councils and had funding approved by the WEL Energy Trust, through the territorial Councils' recommendation process

Projects which create a conflict of interest with (for) the Trust

-

Programmes or projects which have an entitlement or access to a substantial amount
  of Government or Local Government funding.

This applies to educational and similar organisations.

  Applications
 

Application forms must be fully completed with all necessary
documentation attached (Only one copy is required)


Applications must be on the approved form (on this web site) and with information to meet the requirements in all respects.


Applicants for energy related projects may be required to complete a further application and assessment process.

Applications might be approved with conditions.


Proposals should be typed and limited to1000 words (see guidelines for proposals down the page) Preference will be given to WEL Energy Group customers where applicable.


No late applications will be considered. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged.

  Deputations - Canvassing
  Deputations will not be accepted.


Canvassing of Trustees by or on behalf of any applicant may prejudice the application
concerned.

  Conditions of aproval
  Applications may be approved in principle subject to meeting specified requirements. All conditions must be met within a designated time period. Approved projects may be required to be involved in a public relations programme with the Trust.

  Decisions/Payments of Grants
  Are expected to be made by JUNE 2000

  Applications to be returned and received by the Trust by 4pm on Tuesday 1 February 2000
