Availability
Unfortunately, there are no maps of Aomori Prefecture produced in English that offer enough detail to be used for driving. However, several map manufacturers produce maps that have major location names in both Japanese and their English equivalent. Using these in conjunction with the road numbers printed on the map is probably the most reliable way of navigating the area. Large bookstores (such as the one in the department store at the Jusco Shopping Mall) tend to have the best selection of maps.
Informational Maps
Many local tourism organizations provide informational pamphlets about Aomori in English that contain general maps in them. These are sufficient for getting from large city to large city, but are relatively useless when it comes to navigating smaller roads. They do, however, have detailed information on many of Aomori's attractions. These pamphlets can be obtained free of charge at ASPAM (Aomori Prefecture Center for Industry and Tourism), the large triangle shaped building in downtown Aomori City. |
