-Japan has a VERY STRICT zero tolerance policy regarding drunk driving.  If you drink, DO NOT DRIVE!

-If you have been drinking, feel free to use the daiko system, a taxi service where two drivers come to pick you up in one car, and one of the two drivers your car home.  Not only is this system convenient, it is also usually cheaper than a normal taxi home.

-There is no left turn on red in Japan.

-Pedestrians always have the right of way, even if they aren't in a crosswalk.

-Always check for bicycles entering the crosswalk before you make a turn.

-Many cars park illegally on the roadside next to shops and businesses, even on narrow streets.  Use car when passing parked cars that block a portion of the roadway.

-Many drainage gutters along roads and in parking lots are left uncovered.  Use caution, especially when backing up
