To view ps and pdf files, you can use ghostview, xpdf, and/or acroread.

To print ps files, use lp, as decribed in the Printing section.

To print pdf files, use acroread, as decribed in the Printing section.

To create a ps file, first start with a text file. Open it in Netscape. Then, go to File on the menubar, and select Print. Select "Print to File" in the dialog box. Then, print. This will print the text to a ps file you specify, instead of to the printer.
