| This class is an introduction to the art and science of programming, including
such concepts as data representation, algorithm design, structured programming,
step-wise refinement, programming style, testing, debugging, and program
documentation. An integral part of this course includes experience in the
design and implementation of computer programs.
One primary object of this course is to help you understand the problem solving process. This will enable you to create solutions. In this class we will be utilizing the computer to create these solutions. We will be writing programs utilizing JAVA as our source language, but the lectures and assignments will be generic such that you could use the technique learned for any programming language. The syllabus for this class is located on ORU's Vision. There are several resources that are available to you to assist you in completing this class and start your on the road to becoming an excellent, successful programmer. We have employed a tutor that will be in one of the labs to assist you with your programs and homework assignments. I will also be available almost anytime I do not have a class or meeting. I will have set office hours but this does not preclude you from coming to see me at other times. Remember you will get out of this class exactly with you put into it. You will need to visit the following page prior to construct your first program. You need to complete and understand chapters 1 and 2 before attempting your first program. When you write your your first program it will have a heading similar to the one shown here. Your programs will be grades based on the it content, structure, functionality, etc. based on this rubric.
