CURRICULUM VITAE

Ülo Hunt was born on April 15th, 1951 in Pärnu district (Estonia ). After successful graduation from Nõo mathematics high school (Estonia) he studied on Faculty of Economics of Tartu State University. At the university he specialized in cybernetics in economy. After successful graduation from the university in 1974 he acquired profession of "economist-mathematician".

After university in 1974-1976 Hunt Ü.J. worked as an engineer in the USSR system of state supplies in Tallinn. He was engaged in problems of systems analysis and design of control system. Working for Estonian statistics agency in Tartu ( Estonia) he took part in updating of computer software in automation of statistic activities and was involved in development of All-Union standards of design and development of software.

In 1980-1987 Hunt Ü.J. worked for the USSR State Bank (GOSBANK) as the vice-manager of computer center, providing expert help on issues of development of automated banking systems to a number of working groups in cities Vilnius, Kishinev and Moscow. In 1983-1987 he took an active participation in elaboration of Interdepartmental (Treasury, National Bank, State Insurance, Construction Bank, State Savings Banks) integrated system of data processing (IISDP). At the same time he introduced  new operating systems such as RSX, Unix, MS DOS as well as a lot of modern software systems for minicomputers and PC.

In the period 1989 - 1991, during a business trip in Finland as an expert on information technology, Hunt Ü.J. acquired a large practical experience in small and medium Unix-similar computers. He participated in development of mobile accounting package and attended several special courses for UNIX-like medium computer systems. From 1991 till middle 1996 Hunt Ü.J. worked for a number of commercial banks of Estonia, where he was engaged in computer and software issues of bank information technology and foreign banking. Under his management and direct participation the well known international bank communications system SWIFT was introduced. Since September 1996 Hunt Ü.J. was  the Head of Accounting Center of the state enterprise Estonian Railway. Since 2001 Hunt Ü.J. is Head of Freight Terms and Claims Unit of Estonian Railway. Hunt Ü.J. possesses certain experience in international railway cooperation with CIS railway organizations and with OSJD. He participates in the work of different task forces engaged in railway legislation and data processing. He is familiar with UIC, CIT and European Commission activities collecting and studying their documents in the Internet.

 In August 1995 Hunt Ü.J. is selected as the member of the Tallinn Research Group (TRG ) on section of information science .

In December 1997 Hunt Ü.J. was elected as scientific secretary of the Baltic Branch of Russian Academy of Noosphere, which is responsible for coordination among scientists and specialists of Baltic countries working on subjects of the Branch. The main attention is paid to theoretical and applied issues of homogeneous structures in context of using them as fundamentals of simulation. In December 1998 Hunt Ü.J. was elected as the full member of Russian Academy of Noosphere, section of information science. And in June 1999 he successfully passes nostrification as the full member of International Academy of Noosphere (sustainable development), section of information science and information technologies.  

Hunt Ü.J. has a lot of publications (including 13 collective monographs and books) on information technology in different application areas, including statistics, banking, material supplies and others. Issues of sustainable development, general theory of systems, information science, theory of statistics and applied software for solution of different problems of modern natural sciences as well as everyday practical issues are in scope of his major interests. Lately he wrote some articles on modeling railway and econometrics.
