Daigle named AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, MA. . . The American Hockey League announced today that Hartford Wolf Pack center Alexandre Daigle has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 17, 1999. Daigle recorded five points (2-3) in two games for the Wolf Pack.

Daigle notched two assists in Hartford's 6-3 come-from-behind victory in Syracuse. He followed that performance with two goals and an assist in Saturday's 6-5 overtime loss against Rochester. Daigle leads the team and ranks second in the AHL with 10 points (3-7) in just five games. In recognition of his achievement Daigle will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to one of his upcoming games. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate a dozen sticks, a case of InGlasCo pucks along with hats and T-shirts to the Hartford Police Athletic Youth Hockey Oganization.

The 24-year old native of Montreal, Quebec was drafted first overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 1993 NHL Entry. Daigle is currently in his seventh professional season, having played 401 NHL games with Ottawa, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay.

Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week include: Albany left wing Jiri Bicek, Louisville center Craig Ferguson, Lowell goaltender Travis Scott, Philadelphia left wing Mike Maneluk, Portland right wing Alexandre Volchkov, Rochester right wing Craig Fisher, Saint John left wing Hnat Domenichelli, St. John's left wing Konstantin Kalmikov, Syracuse right wing Harold Druken and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton center Tyler Wright.
