Venom: Lethal Protector
a.k.a.
Eddie Brock
Description: A disgruntled reporter who felt Spider-Man ruined his life,
Eddie bonded with the hero's symbiote costume while praying at a church
for God to forgive him for his planned suicide. Their hatred for the web-head
was equal, and they become Venom.
Just for the record, Brock has buzz-cut
blond hair, blue eyes, and stands at 6'3'' tall, and weighs 260lbs (all
muscle). He'd be in his mid-to-late 30's by now. In the form of Brock, he
often takes the attire of a black leather jacket, a white t-shirt, blue
jeans, black boots, and fingergloves. As for how he looks as Venom, just
take a peek at this bio.
Powers: Venom's symbiote gives him strength that is beyond Spider-Man (over
10 tons). Venom has been able to hit Juggernaut and Superman and make them
feel it, as an example. His costume also makes him bulletproof, and gives
him a healing factor. It is nearly impossible to defeat him with blunt
force.
Venom can stretch his symbiote to a certain degree to climb walls or
strangle people. He cannot make weapons like Carnage can. He also has
taloned fingers and sharp teeth.
Venom can create webbing from the top of his wrists, but since the webbing
is made from the suit itself, it can become exhusted,
leading to unconsciousness. This is, however, after extreme use.
Venom's suit gives him above human perception, but is not the same as a "spider-sense".
He is also immune to detection of the "spider-sense", and the suit can
contain air for underwater purposes. He can cover someone in the suit
while it is filled with air, holding him/her tight, and allow them to not
drown, as well (as he did once with Darkhawk).
Venom's costume can also change colors to blend in with the surroundings,
even becomming clear like water. It can also mimic any sort of clothing.
In human form, Eddie Brock has olympic level strength. He has no martial
arts knowledge, so his combat skills are at street level.
Venom's only physical weaknesses are fire, and to a greater extent, sound
(in the form of sonic vibrations). These are the only ways to truly defeat
him. Venom has taken extreme beatings and still fought on, but has
succumbed to sonic blasts multiple times. Sonic blasts must be of a high
concentration and be continuous, or it will only annoy him. Fire hurts him,
but to a lessor extent. He's shrugged off fire a helluva lot easier than
sonic blasts.
Venom can envelop people with his suit.
When he does this, certain parts of his body are exposed. He is naked
under the suit.
Just thought I'd mention that Venom has superhuman speed and agility.
However, although his speed is equal to Spider-Man's, his agility isn't.
Venom's symbiote, since it has it's own
alien mind, makes him very difficult to psychically probe and control.
That is how he escaped the institute.
It
can also sense it's own spawn, i.e. Carnage, the Female Symbiote, Lasher,
and the 3 others made by the Life Foundation.
Brock has also handled guns in the past (sonic rifles usually), so I'd
assume he has average knowledge on how to handle firearms.
Although he cannot shape solid objects as freely or easilly as Carnage, he
has been able to form some solid objects through concentration. For
example, he has make a shield grow on his arm (and knees) to block things
several times.
After a near-death experience in which
Venom was near death (severe coma, touch and go situation), he and his
other bonded even further than before; into their "blood and soul". This
means that his will is even closer related to his powers, and they have
improved somewhat (nothing major).
He can now make shapes with his symbiote, such as hammers, knives, and
spikes, a lot easier now, although he still cannot project sharp
projectiles like Carnage can. Although he can make drills and chainsaws
with Carnage-esque ease, he will usually use his fists and more familar
powers more often, sinch that is how he is used to battling.
Also, his stats can increase slightly with either intense will or rage.
His 50 ton strength can go up to 55 ton, his 110 mph max speed can go up
to 115-120 mph speed, and his duribility improves slightly, too. This is
not permanant nor constant, but physically possible. It is also impossible
to seperate alien from body, as their souls are bonded, although
shattering the skin with either fire or sonics will KO Brock and may lead
to death by shock in some cases. He is simply a little tougher; far from
invulnerable or immune to his weaknesses. High concentrated and continuous
sonic barrages and fires are still a bane to him and his other.
Well, not exactly a "I can lift the moon
now" update, but simply putting down what has been going on IC. Because
Brock and the symbiote have soul-merged and are "one being", this entails
certain abilities that even his other hasn't discovered yet, such as being
able to sometimes cause Carnage's "spawn-lings" to shatter and decay in
his grip.
Whatever it is, it is something revolving around the alien symbiotes and
their physiology, as Venom is on a higher level of symbiosis; one that has
never been done before.
History: For many years, Venom hunted
Spider-Man and his friends/relatives. However, during a conflict in which
Eddie's ex-wife was in danger, Venom came to an uneasy truce with Spider-Man,
and devoted himself to protecting the innocent and killing those who do
evil.
When Onslaught took over the world, Eddie was captured, but his symbiote
prevented them from erasing his mind, and he escaped Onslaught's Institute.
Realizing that the battle with the mad dictator is more important than
vengeance against Spider-Man, Venom has once again abandoned his hunt for
the wall-crawler to adopt a role as a rebel of Onslaught. However, the
heroes on Cap's team distrust him greatly, as he is a former villain and a
loner who never listens to orders. The feeling of distrust is mutual.
Venom was the first Resistance fighter at
this New York based headquarters, having saved a woman from Onslaught's
troopers. This led to conflict with a young mutant girl named Heatwave,
who sought to capture Venom for the X-Corps. Venom escaped, and, senseing
her mercy and innocence, sought to save her and convince her to join the
Resistance. He was aided by a youth named Jack Wallace, who had telepathic
and pyrokenetic powers. They formed an alliance, and went out to convince
her. Venom was met by Exodus, a powerful psychic, but, was underestimated
by the villain and was able to beat him. Jack then went into Heatwave's
head and conviced her, and when Exodus battled them on the Astral Plane,
Venom saved them by breaking his concentration.
After telling the duo to go back to the base, Venom happened upon a
Morlock warrior named Doctor Worm, who was being stalked by troopers.
Venom defended Worm, who got injured, and brought him back to the base.
Then, after hearing of Heatwave's tale about her missing mother, Venom
went out to rescue her, not knowing that Exodus would arrive, or that Jack
and Heatwave would follow him. Exodus engaged him in combat by teleporting
him many miles away. Venom landed the first blows of the battle, but the
tide was turning in Exodus' favor until Jack arrived as a handy
distraction. Venom then strangled Exodus, who escaped barely and unleased
a shockwave, simular to one he'd used moments earlier to weaken Venom,
that leveled a neighborhood. Venom absorbed the shot for Jack, a feat
which rendered his human mind practically dead.
He
was awoken by Jack, who travelled into his mind to get him, and he was
able to join Heatwave in battle. She'd been lured out by Exodus and in
danger of death. He realized that Exodus was using Cerebro to lash out
from afar, and a new foe arrived; Rayden. Venom engaged him in combat,
taking his best attacks and still getting back up. This strategy hindered
Rayden's confidence (vital to his powers), and resulted in the Shi'ar
warrior's defeat by Venom's hands. At that point, Jack was rendered in a
coma by Exodus, and Heatwave was down, as well as two new X-Corps, Cyclops
and Neo-Doom, arriving. Cutting his losses, Venom and Dr. Worm gathered
their comrades and fled.
Currently, Venom is the unapproving "leader" of the group, as they welcome
Jack's savior and "old friend"-- Dr. Strange.
Venom went into the sewers to aid a distraught Doctor Worm, who wanted to
find Morlocks. The X-Corps, supposedly led by Cyclops, ventured into the
sewers to ambush him. Cyclops led Neo-Doom and Exodus in to flush him out,
and they instead found Venom. Jack aided in the battle, but the moment was
clearly Venom's, as, after shrugging off a pisonic blast, clouded the area
with steam and clothelined Neo-Doom and Exodus. Exodus was rendered
unconscious and Neo-Doom teleported away via magic. Cyclops carried his
comrade away and waited for Venom to follow. Spotting him in cloaked form,
Cyclops landed an optic blast before being felled by a solid punch.
Venom decided to use Cyke as bait to trap the other X-Corps, being as he
could not see Exodus (he teleported away). However, to his dismay he
learned that his arch foe, CARNAGE, had surfaced once more, and was
fighting Jack. But, Venom had no time to worry about that, as Neo-Doom
encountered him, and injured him fairly decently; using his thrusters to
burn Venom (fire). But, the lethal protector leapt free and disarmed Neo-Doom,
and the battle is, as of this post, a draw.
After both Neo-Doom and Venom were right
back where they started combat-wise, Carnage arrived onto the scene. Neo-Doom
arranged an alliance with Carnage, and made an illusion spell to help him.
Although wounded slightly, Venom excapes the sewers, and he and Carnage
rock the streets with their battle, with cars, sidewalks, and buildings
being leveled in the process. Their combat was evenly matched; Carnage
having the strength advantage, Venom the experience edge. Finally, Venom
tricked Carnage into a clumsy rage, and smashed him into a building and
swung off to find his allies.
It is then that Venom learned from Jack that Doctor Worm had just been
slain by Exodus. He arrived back at the lair, only to find the woman he
saved dead, too. Emotionally distraught, Venom decided to stay away from
the Resistance, as to keep his remaining allies safe, as well as feeling
like a failure once again. However, one thought is clear; Exodus must die
by his hands.
Venom planned to sneak into the Mansion and lower their defenses for the
rebels, but it was not to be.
Venom was lured into a battle when Exodus kidnapped his friend Beck to use
as bait for a trap involving Juggernaut and Carnage, but Carnage went on a
killing rampage, jumping the gun. Venom arrived to fight him, but instead
found Exodus, the Juggernaut, and an angry Rayden, who appeared WAY
stronger and more powerful than ever before. While Jack, Dr. Worm, and
Thermal (as well as Couger, a new feline mutant-woman) entered the fray to
hold off Carnage and Juggernaut, Venom was at Rayden's mercy, but Rayden
grew ashamed of the violence caused by the X-Corps' fued, and vowed to
stay out of Earth affairs. Releasing Venom, the symbiote hero battled
Carnage for a while, and then turned to Exodus. While Jack had him in the
midst of a telepathic duel, Venom struck him, knocking him out (luckily,
he teleported away). Neo-Doom appeared, but left just as quickly, to save
Exodus. Venom joined in the battle against the Juggernaut, who was being
held off by Marduk after Worm and Jack grew exhusted from the strain. It
was then that Cyclops, Gambit, and Dark Beast arrived as back-uo; the
latter biting Venom in the shoulder and poisoning him. Exodus teleported
them all away, and Venom tried to rest, to recover from the toxin.
He didn't get the chance. Dr. Strange heard of a new Cerebro being
delivered, and Venom went off to stop it, as well as Carnage. He also
wanted to save the innocent Cobweb. He sensed a symbiote and was shocked
to see that it was Cobweb, who now wore a spawned symbiote from Carnage.
Atop the train, he pleaded to the girl, trying to get her to see the error
of her ways. Beforehand, he engaged in combat with Gambit, who, dispite
his inhuman agilty, was no match for Venom, as was battled to the verge of
defeat. Jack Wallace arrived and derailed the train, but not before Neo-Doom
could flee with the device. Exodus' plan was to tire Venom out, so the
toxin would weaken him enough for Carnage to kill him. Exodus sent a train
full of civilians into a collision course, and Venom used his mighty
strength, in addition to Jack's TK to stop it, proving his valour to
Cobweb. Attacks from Carnage and Juggernaut weakened him, but Cobweb
joined the fight and soon, Venom tossed the Juggernaut away for miles and
miles (thanks, again, to Jack's TK). After choking Exodus with webbing, he
teleported the Corps away, and the trio fled, too.
Venom now tries to recover from his massive injuries, as he gives Cobweb
data and tries to understand the symbiote girl...and visa versa.
The affairs of the war against Onslaught,
as well as being on an island full of certain Resistance members he barely
knew and trusted (Storm, Psylocke, Dr. Strange, Crimson at times) had to
wait as an invasion from the Skrull Empire became a pressing matter.
The Resistance, led by Dr. Doom, as well as Onslaught's X-Corps combined
their forces to attack the aliens at all fronts. Venom, however, was
somewhat shocked at how well certain members seemed to ally with differing
factions. He always thought that some of the Resistance members having
past personal ties with Onslaught's soldiers was a bad idea, best to be
objective, to ensure true blind justice and the protection of innocents.
He also found himself on the same side of a war with Carnage, his hated
enemy. The Skrull attacks were ruthless, at times the sky was rocked with
never-ending laser fire and missles. Venom refused to shake hands with his
enemies, refused to eat their food or sleep under their cover. He went
back to familiar ways, keeping to himself and his other, using the cover
of night and sudden raids, rather than sitting at a round table with maps
and radar.
Of course, he was not alone, he had his kin, and some of his friends
following.
Countless Skrulls lost their lives during this war to Venom, and it was
then that perhaps blinded by their "Crimson Dawn" quest, a lot of the
Resistance memebers (and former X-Men) started to grow even more disgusted
and intolerant of the being that had been their ally. Venom would often
comment gleefully that their blood matched the color of his drool, as he
would be splattered with their excrements. There was no time for brooding,
for Eddie Brock longing for certain things. He and his other were
soulmates, now and forever, bestowed with some power enhancements and
thrust into a war.
It was then, during his raids, that he began to discover some more truths
about the symbiotes, why they seem to aim towards evil (mostly) and
delight in angry, violent behavior.
The
Skrulls were losing this war, and as usual they sent their dog of war, the
Super Skrull, a being that could hold it's own with the Fantastic Four of
old, a being with all of their combined powers at his disposal. The tide
became shaky with the arrival of Super Skrull, as he destroyed much
property and killed a good number of soldiers by himself. Venom, Cobweb,
Thermal and a few other of his allies combined their force against him,
but it was not enough, the battle was long and a few of them became
exhusted, Venom only able to contain him for moments at a time. It was the
arrival of Heatwave, after all this time, that caused the end of the
battle. Preparing to use his Nova-Blast to end the fight, she combined her
heat powers with Jack's Pyrokenesis, and Venom nearly sacrificed himself
keeping the Skrull at bay for the gambit to succeed. In a mighty blast,
the Super Shrull was weakened (and ripe for defeat), however, the effort
exhusted Heatwave, who promptly fell and never rose again. Venom once
again saw an innocent fall before him and there was no mercy that day for
the Super Skrull (especially since it was reported that he had slain
Venom's old ally during the early Resistance days, the morlock mutant-returned-from-the-dead,
Doctor Worm).
That day, Worm and Heatwave, as well as everyone the Super Skrull had
injured or slain, were avenged.
The Skrull Wars ended, with little fanfare, but during that scirmish,
Venom had learned a few things about the so-called leader of the
Resistance, Dr. Doom. How he had organized the abduction of an infant to
get at Rogue and "Magneto", former commanders of Onslaught's army. He knew
well of Doom's history, of his willingness to endanger and even injure and
kill innocents in search of his own self needs and desires to conquer the
world, and was not surprised, amazingly, that so many of the Earth's "heroes"
like Captain America and Iron Man were quick to join him; he never trusted
them, knew that spandex types aren't usually loyal. Perhaps he should have
been more careful, more sceptic. But at the time, he knew they would need
his help to take out the nigh-omnipotent Onslaught, and that was all that
mattered.
In one colossal battle, Venom found himself side-by-side with people that
in another time he'd tried to kill and vise versa, but in the moment of
desperate fray, that mattered not. It was not brute force or anger that
got the better of Onslaught, more like Scarlet Witch's magics and psychic
powers from others, but Venom was in the thick of it with his friends,
helping batter down forcefields and even getting a chance to clock
Onslaught a few times in the face (whether he felt it or not, who knows,
but several "Argh!"-s were heard from the mighty being). Even at times
helping others distract the demi-god. And Onslaught did fall. At long last,
after the seperation, the war, the chaos, Onslaught fell.
Innocence had been avenged.
But there was little time for celebration, as the being unleashed legions
of super-powered villians to attack the helpless, and Venom was once again
the Lethal Protector, defending innocence and ripping apart those who
would harm it. Many saw him as a menace, some a hero, but in the long run,
it seemed like old times; after all, they were never perfect, but that was
what he and the other heroes were "supposed" to be about; helping it to be
as good as it could be.
And then those heroes sided with Dr. Doom, a villian many had claimed was
little better than Onslaught with his bold dreams and iron-fist dictator
style of ruling his impoverished people (while he resided in a castle with
technology worthy of a Watcher). The X-Corps he had fought so valiently
against, those mutants who had been the very minions of Onslaught and who
treated the innocent as expendable pawns, who were not above tricking and
brainwashing people into joining their ranks. Eddie Brock, in all his
brooding, depressing, and at times pessimistic theories and rants was
proven true. There are no heroes. Once again, it seemed as he was used as
a pawn by some government to gain power; last time it was the US military,
this time it was Dr. Doom and his turncoat army.
Innocence did not go unavenged.
Venom staged an attack, a brazen one, since tricks and words never worked,
he always fell back on a direct approach, on brute force, which
surprisingly always worked. He was not alone in this, he had seen Neo-Doom
seemingly fall before the elder Doom and what Gina had become after.
Exodus had appeared on scene, but Venom pointed and turned to his friend
Jack and said,
"He's all yours, kid. We've killed him
already. Once it's dramatic, twice it's a ripoff!"
It was known as a massacre amung Doom's new regime, one that perhaps is
pointed to by those who want to smash rebel feelings
towards Doom's new world. Gambit, Quicksilver, Cyclops, Stranglehold (he
returned during the Skrull Wars, 5 ton strength, knife and all), and the
Juggernaut.
They say that the Juggernaut was sent into yet another ocean, as rumors
said he was flung into the air like a toy, screaming. The fastest man on
Earth Quicksilver rained thousands of punches on Venom, only to succumb to
the symbiote's one, which made the scarlet speedster's chest explode from
within. Gambit attacked with earnest, but having heard of Doctor Worm's
tales of Morlock slaughter and of whom led their attackers to the sewers
that night, there was no mercy for the Cajun. He was impaled by Venom's
right hand, skull grabbed and squished to pulp by the left. As
Stranglehold lay twitching and soon motionless after being choked by some
symbiote tendrils (the irony). Clad in the very armor that Onslaught had
draped upon him, Cyclops stood his ground, determined not to falter, not
caring at the moment that his missed blasts were hitting and shattering
apartment buildings full of civilians. Perhaps one of the last symbols of
Onslaught's reign ended that night, as he was no match for Venom's
superhuman speed and savagry. The armor was ripped open, piece by piece,
and the flesh within pulped, as the X-Man fell screaming to the ground
below. It was ugly, not the type of so-called justice costume clad heroes
embraced before such dark times, but Venom had been used to such things.
Like a shadow in the night, he was gone. He will never be at rest until
the innocent are free of oppression by tyrants who are not made to answer
for their crimes, free of heroes who do not know the meaning of the word,
and of villians whose evil is unquestionable.
The so-called "Venom" monster is used as a spooky story to make children
sleep at night, as something Doom can point to as something that is unjust.
In some circles an urban legend. A boogey-Man. But in reality, Venom, or
Eddie Brock, is still around. He has an adopted daughter who still needs
him, a green skinned ally who sometimes needs some help, and a mutant
teenager with psychic powers to find.
And as the drifting man, now nearing 40, wanders towards his next agenda,
his old vow, the vow that he and his symbiote, his other, said time and
time again runs in his mind:
"Innocence conceived us, the guilty destroyed
us. Symbiosis unites us and in the darkness binds us. We are vengence made
flesh and hate given purpose. We are VENOM!"
