Moonstone
Known superhuman powers: Due to the power of the Moonstone, Karla Sofen has the ability to create light in any portion of the spectrum, including the infrared and ultraviolet parts. She can use this for various effects, including producing blinding bursts and lasers. She can fly a moderate speeds, change her costume's appearance, and has a limited ability to phase through solid objects
Sofen still craved power and control over others, and began pursue criminal activities to achieve that end. She became an associate and student of the criminal mastermind Dr. Faustus, but left him after Faustus' defeat by the hero Captain America. Later, she was asked by a prison board to help cure Byron Becton, the villain known as Moonstone. Using hallucinogenic gas to make Becton think he was a monster, she caused him to reject the source of his powers: the moonstone, a rock taken from the Blue Area of the moon and believed to be invested with some power from the alien Watcher. When she took the rock from him and absorbed it into her hand, she assumed the energy powers that were his. After mastering her new powers and
calling herself Moonstone, she offered her psychiatric services to Doctor
Leonard Samson who Her cover uncompromised, she was contacted by Senator Eugene K. Stivik, a member of the Corporation, and offered a position in the eastern branch of the organization. Accepting, she was soon involved in a war between the East and West Coast factions of the Corporation, a struggle also involving the Hulk, Captain America, the Falcon, and Quasar. She was eventually apprehended and imprisoned. The criminal mastermind Egghead freed Moonstone from prison to recruit her into his Masters of Evil outfit. She assisted him in his scheme to discredit his old enemy Henry Pym (now Giant Man) until Egghead was killed and she was apprehended. She was turned over to the government energy facility Project: Pegasus for study but managed to escape with the aid of fellow prisoner Blackout, evading capture by the hero team Avengers. When the Avengers caught up with them, Blackout surrounded them with his darkforce energy and teleported them to the moon, where Moonstone hoped to find more moon rocks to augment her power. The two were apprehended by the mutant Dazzler and the moon-dwelling Inhumans and returned to Project: Pegasus. When Project: Pegasus abandoned its research on superhuman beings, Moonstone and Blackout were among the test subjects to be transferred to a new facility. They were freed en route by agents of the second Baron Zemo, who was organizing a new Masters of Evil. Moonstone was integral to the Masters' invasion of the Avengers' mansion headquarters, mostly due to her mental domination of the clearly insane Blackout. Moonstone tried to use her position to wrest control of the Masters from him, but was defeated by Zemo and Blackout's sudden break of independence. Moonstone fled the scene pursued by the Avenger Captain Marvel (now, Photon) and accidentally ran into the side of a cliff, rendering her hospitalized for several months. After recuperating, Moonstone evaded imprisonment, and ended up working for South American arms dealers which pitted her against Captain Marvel once again. Defeated, she was imprisoned in the superhero facility known as the Vault. She remained there until rescued by Zemo and coerced into joining his newest Masters of Evil, who were to begin posing as heroes of a new team, Thunderbolts.
