Powers:
Energy Phoenix - Like her grandpa, Anne absorbs and stores solar energy, which
she combines with an innate form of psionic energy. She releases her energy when
she manifests the raptor of the phoenix. This occurs when she is consciously
using her stored energy as well as when she has taken in too much energy and her
body is not able to store any more. With this energy she is able to blast things
as well as create shield of pure energy over herself and others. It appears to
an onlooker as though the bird’s wings are sheltering her from attack. There is
a theory that the control of said energy takes a telekinetic touch, but that’s
neither here nor there, as she doesn’t use standard TK in the least.
Psychic Invisibility – Her slight inherited telepathic ability is fully caught
up in protecting her mind from both passive and active scans by other psychics
as well as machines such as Cerebro that search for mutant brain patterns or the
existence of another mind. It is this power that has allowed her to remain free
of detection by Apocalypse.
History:
Chamber was a telepath whose body was composed of pure psionic energy… Husk
could shed her skin for a new physical form… Their child, David, inherited the
ability of psychic husking, allowing himself to take on new mental forms and re-pattern
his brain waves for short periods of time.
Cyclops, the master of the optic blast… Phoenix, telepath and telekinetic…Their
daughter, Sarah, inherited the majority of her mother’s telepathic powers,
though none of her telekinetic.
And so, in the distant future, David and Sarah married, and had one child…
Born into this ‘age of apocalypse’ future, Anne has never known another life but
that of the streets and that of the human slaves. Her parents, whose vast
psychic powers allowed them all to ‘pass’ for human, raised her among the human
populace. Her mother’s own powers allowed her and her family to hide their
genetic code, which coupled with her father’s powers permitted them anonymity
among the humans.
Her parents went into hiding like this when Apocalypse came to power, having
watched all who opposed them die, and not wanting their baby girl to face the
same fate. There was little that they could do on their own had they wanted to
sacrifice themselves, and so they set about raising their little girl as best
they could.
Anne has grown up knowing nothing but hard work, and the need to remain ‘one of
the crowd’. To stand out was to warrant closer inspection, something her family
couldn’t afford. It is thought that her secondary power grew out of this innate
need for remaining hidden.
Things changed, however, two years ago, when at the age of thirteen, just when
her powers were beginning to emerge, that her parents told her everything that
they were, and that she was. And they also told her of why they were doing what
they were doing. Only days later, the human camp they lived in was raided by the
Infinites, and Anne was separated from her parents in the chaos. She fled and
hid from the culling, her own powers kicking in and hiding her in plain sight
from those about her.
Anne was at the camp’s edge when the explosion occurred, and it sent her flying
into the air along with debris and dirt. When she turned around, the remains of
the camp was on fire, and she could hear people screaming. Unable to go back in,
and with Apocalypse’s reinforcements coming in, she ran for the city.
For the last few years she has been living at the edge of the area deemed ‘the
wasteland’ scrounging a living and hoping against hope that she’d be found by
her parents. So far, they have not come to claim her…
Other things:
She has taken on the code name of Phoenix, as this is the name that her mother
used, as well as her grandmother. In a sense, it is part of her family’s legacy.
Anne is very bright, but has had little formal schooling. She can read, and
write, but her knowledge in many areas is limited to the camps and her immediate
surroundings, though she knows her history of how the world comes to be this way.
Also, while she would consider going to Apocalypse and joining him with the hope
of being able to find her parents again, or at least learn if they are alive or
dead, she does not. The reason is that she fears that if Apocalypse learns of
their ‘treachery’ to him, he will not only prevent her finding the truth, he
will kill them should they still be alive.
