05/28/00 ~ 8:33 p.m. Alright, first the important stuff. Issue #4 of Interstate has been printed and I will be bringing copies to shows over the next month or two. Also drop me a line if you would like to get a copy in the mail- I lost quite a few addresses when my computer crashed, so you may want to send it again even if you talked to me fairly recently. Issue #5 is set for late August or early September and, as always, I'm looking for contributions. I've also updated the various areas of the website. I'm considering adding a shows list and some more online features. Well, it's the Memorial Day weekend and the Sci-fi channel has unleashed a wave of horrible movies on their unsuspecting audience. I glanced through the listings in the newspaper and just saw a row of one and two star sinkers. Is it really worth replacing their regular programming? I got up at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, as always, to watch Mystery Science Theater 3000, but "Hell Comes to Frogtown" was all I found on channel 44. I checked back periodically throughout the day, and I think my favorite was "Double Dragon" (right). I am an old fan of the video game in all of its incarnations, but don't think I could imagine a movie that has less to do with its source material. They are showing "Gattaca," "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Blade Runner" over the summer, so I suppose they deserve at least some credit. Now they're showing "Dune." The book is great but far too expansive to be made into a successful movie, even at four hours. It does have its share of quotable lines, though- "Bring in that floating fat man." It also has Patrick Stewart and Sting (which, along with listening to Synchronicity and hearing "Message in a Bottle" on the radio makes three Sting incidents in one day). Regardless, the Sci-fi Channel is taking another swing at "Dune" with a miniseries in December. David Duchovny may be returning to The X-Files, but only in a limited capacity, and Gillian Anderson may have a new partner. Read about it here. Tons of new links as well. Check 'em out! Rare maps: I love looking at old maps- it's sort of depressing that the world is now so well-documented and so much of the mystery is gone. Coke II: A conspiracy theory for the rest of us. Freedrive: Back up all of your files on the internet- for free, obviously. Show list: One of the best show lists around. Invisibl Skratch Piklz: ISP is breaking up! Check out their cool site and great internet skratch radio. The Quantum Leap Information Kiosk: Everything you wanted to know about Quantum Leap. Gamespy: News, reviews and more on popular videogames. And in case you've been living under a rock for the past few years, check out Napster and MP3 for free music.
