Intersexgroup
I am pleased you have found this page. Intersex group is a support group in Yahoo groups directed to provide a place of education, information, and support for people with intersex conditions and their supporters. Intersex conditions, such as Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, 5 alpha reductase deficiency, gonadal dygenesis, et. al., are finally getting the attention they deserve after years of shame and secrecy. Many more people are involved in a major effort to provide support to those who are finding out they are intersex after many years of not being told the truth. More and more parents with intersex children are seeking support for their children.
My name is Amy Hinton. I am the moderator for Intersexgroup. My goal is to provide a means of education and support for not only intersex people, but also people wanting to find out information about intersex conditions. I found out I was intersex just a few years ago when I was in college. Since finding out, my main goal is to provide as much information as possible, so others will not have to go years without knowing the truth. It is not easy to set out one day to try and understand why one feels a certain way and then later finding out that we are genetically opposite of our physical characteristics. This is an evolving process emotionally, and no one should have to be alone in the process. There is nothing worse that feeling like you are the only one in the world with this. However, it is through these various support groups that we are able to come together and get the needed support to know we are not alone in this struggle to find ourselves.
The most important goal is to end the shame and secrecy surrounding intersex conditions. People should know who and what they are without having to find out accidentally. Further, it is time to take a stand against unwanted surgeries,especially sexual reassignment at birth. Babies cannot convey their wants or wishes, and it is our duty to make sure that their bodies will not be violated or changed in ways they might not want if they had the decision to make. We must defend the defenseless.
