In round 1, 3 players compete against a board of 16 answers. 11 are right and 5 are wipeouts. The 11 right answers all relate to the round's theme (i.e. "11 of these answers are Republican Vice Presidents"). $200 is awarded for each correct answer and hitting a wipeout drops your score to $0. If you find the Hot Spot and keep it without hitting a Wipeout, you'll win $5000 in bonus money The two players with the most money, play the Bid for the Grid Challenge Round. A question is asked in relation to a board with 12 answers (8 right and 4 wipeouts). The two remaining players big to see how many answers they can correctly get without hitting a wipeout. The person challenged must give the number of answers they bid correctly without hitting a wipeout, otherwise, if their opponent gets a chance and nabs one correct answer they win the round. The Challenge Round is a best of 3 format, so the first person to win 2 Challenge Rounds plays the Bonus Round. In the bonus game, you must correctly pick out the 6 correct answers to a question from a board of 12 answers. The contestant gets 6 chances to get all 6 answers, and if all 6 answers are obtained, the player wins the grand prize.
