| Host: Jim Williams Announcer: Dustin Dumovich Gametime: On Hiatus...Returns Late Summer Gameplay: Net Triple Play is a combination of Press Your Luck and Bullseye. The front game board consists of 12 spaces. 9 are base subjects, 1 is an out, 1 is lose an out, and 1 is called "3 for 1". Two players compete in the game. A true or false toss up is asked to determine control of the board. The person in control may play the board or pass the board to their opponent. A la Press Your Luck, the squares flash in a random sequence and the contestant must stop the board. If they land on one of the base subjects, they must correctly answer 3 consecutive questions in the category. Only the first question, if answered incorrectly, can be stolen by the opponent. Once a category has been selected, it becomes an out. Hit three outs and you lose. Each time you correctly obtain all of a categories answers you've made a Triple Play and $500 goes into the winner's jackpot. Hitting 3 for 1 allows a player to obtain a triple play by merely giving 1 correct answer to a mystery question. 3 for 1 is always on the board. The player who scores 3 triple plays (or subsequently who forces their opponent to hit 3 outs) wins the game and plays Three for the Money. In Three for the Money, the 9 subjects return on the board, and the contestant controls the ability to stop at a category. This time a contestant must give 3 correct answers that respond to a question. As in the front game, used categories become outs. For every triple play made, $500 is awarded. If the contestant makes three triple plays before recording three outs, the contestant wins the jackpot which starts at $10,000 (and increases by $10,000 for each game it isn't won). Interesting notes in YIM Triple Play: Although the game has been altered from its original creation, creator Jim Williams created the idea of Triple Play in about an hour's time during a day off from college. Jim Williams and Will Jarmon are the co-creators of the game. Will is best known for hosting Super Press Your Luck and the All New Password. The theme to Yahoo's Triple Play was actually used on the 1982 pilot to Twenty-One hosted by Jim Lange. The theme was composed by The Alan Parsons Project. |
