IBC Power Rankings!!!
Welcome to 6th installment of the semi-weekly IBC power rankings for the 2002 season!!! Please remember, these are SEMI WEEKLY! But we do enjoy your bitching and moaning about them. Makes us feel appreciated. Well, here you are, the moment you’ve all been waiting for! Good luck! Yep, some of us STILL need it. J
This week, the Mets are still king of the rankings. Can anyone step up to the plate and dethrone them? They’ve definitely ran away with the NL east. Cubs are still fending off those pesky Pirates. They’ve made the NL central a battle. In the NL West the D’backs have stolen the show.
AL news? Boston lost the lead in their division briefly, but have since put a 4 game padding on the Rays. The Chisox are looking to make the division their own as they try to put the Tigers under. And in the AL West, the Halos may be running away with it. Looks like that picture of who is a contender and who is a pretender is becoming more and more clear.
And by the way – we’ve not had 1 comment added to the power rankings this
year. We’d like to hear your
voices. If you want to bitch about
where you’re ranked, please do. If you
want to bitch about how we do the rankings, please do. If you want to bitch? Please do, we could spice this up a bit
more. Send us an email as to why you
were unjustly ranked in the rankings.
If someone was too high, tell us why.
We’d love to add you, our faithful readers comments into the rankings
each weak.
Questions?
Comments? Disputes over where
you are ranked? Tell us what you think
and why you’re team should be ranked higher – email [email protected] – if we like
what you have to say – we’ll throw in your comments in our next update.

Prior Weeks Ranking |
Current Ranking |
Team - Record |
Record |
|
|
1 |
1 |
N.Y. Mets |
60-28 |
Best record in the IBC and they don’t appear to be slowing down any time soon. I think they are printing playoff tickets already. |
|
5 |
2 |
Chicago Cubs |
55-32 |
Finally got caught by the Pirates….only to answer the challenge by retaking the top spot in the Power Ranking’s favorite division, the NL Central. |
|
4 |
3 |
Arizona D’backs |
56-30 |
Just couldn’t find a challenger in the NL West……this team is sleepwalking through the season. |
|
3 |
4 |
Chicago White Sox |
54-34 |
This team is coming together…….still could use a little help in the rotation but that offense is down right potent. |
|
2 |
5 |
Detroit Tigers |
53-33 |
This team has more tricks than a sidewalk magician. Somehow they just keep on winning. |
|
9 |
6 |
Boston RedSox |
52-32 |
Traded away that dominating #2 pitcher that Boston has always been looking for…….but he added a Gold Glove CFer that should be patrolling the Fenway Triangle for many years to come. That could cost him come playoff time. |
|
6 |
7 |
Pittsburgh Pirates |
54-32 |
This roster turns over faster than an intern at the White House, but whatever the formula is…..it seems to be working. |
|
11 |
8 |
Anaheim Angels |
50-36 |
Made some savy moves and now they seem to be the team to beat in the AL West. |
|
7 |
9 |
Tampa Bay Devil Rays |
49-37 |
If this team ever got a decent rotation….they could cause some serious trouble for the BoSox. |
|
12 |
10 |
St. Louis Cardinals |
48-38 |
Finally found a closer, but could he afford to sacrifice a key part of that anemic offense in order to get one? |
|
10 |
11 |
Toronto Blue Jays |
46-37 |
That rotation is looking awfully thin behind Maddux and Hudson. Will there be enough warm bodies to fill the last three spots and still keep this team in contention? “Survey Says………………….?” |
|
8 |
12 |
Florida Marlins |
46-42 |
Looks like there is a ghost at the helm of this ship….how its managed to miss the ice burg we have no idea. |
|
13 |
13 |
Oakland Athletics |
44-43 |
Losing ground to the Halos. This division race may be over sooner than expected. |
|
18 |
14 |
Kansas City Royals |
43-43 |
At least there is no Allan Baird running this Royals Franchise. |
|

Cincinnati Reds |
43-44 |
Made a “Statement Trade” and is looking to get back in the playoff race. |
|
15 |

Good Timing? Or just plain Lucky? Grampa always said, “Its better to be Lucky than Good”. |
|
20 |
17 |
Los Angeles Dodgers |
41-45 |
He finally made a move to get Tony Womack out of CF and it could be a good one. |
|
19 |
18 |
Milwaukee Brewers |
43-45 |
Lucky they’ve still got the Astros to land on as they continue to drop in the standings. |
|
21 |
19 |
Houston Astros |
41-45
|
He’s Talkin’ the
Talk………now if he can just get his team to Walk the Walk. Re-alignment may be this team’s best
opportunity for advancement.
|
|
22 |
20 |
Baltimore Orioles |
39-47 |
This is his team and he’s sticking with it! Maybe Peter Angelos wasn’t so bad after all? |
|
17 |
21 |
San Francisco Giants |
39-47 |
Just can’t seem to keep up with Curt Schilling and his D-backs. |
|
24 |
22 |
Philadelphia Phillies |
39-47 |
R.I.P. Mr. Kile. A moment of silence to honor a fallen warrior…………………………………………………………………….! |
|
25 |
23 |
Colorado Rockies |
37-50 |
Definitely made some moves to bolster its pitching staff. Now they just need enough time to develop. |
|
16 |
24 |
N.Y. Yankees |
37-50 |
The playoffs don’t appear to be in the near future for this storied franchise. |
|
23 |
25 |
San Diego Padres |
35-52 |
Desperately Seeking Sele’s replacement. This team needs a real pitching staff. |
|
26 |
26 |
Texas Rangers |
32-55 |
This is a better team than its record indicates…….why is Vazquez (.188) still hitting in the #2 spot in the batting order? |
|
30 |
27 |
Cleveland Indians |
31-56 |
Scouting the Orient, looking for the Next Ichiro….or maybe the First Godzilla! |
|
28 |
28 |
Minnesota Twins |
30-58 |
Giving the youngsters some playing time. |
|
29 |
29 |
Montreal Expos |
30-55 |
Definitely gets the “Trader Bob” award….jury is still out on his vision. Is it 20/20 or 200/200. |
|
27 |
30 |
Atlanta Braves |
