| Q: Is there a fee to the league? A: Absolutely positively without a doubt will there NEVER be a fee. Q: Do I have to own a copy of the SIM? A: No, no one has to buy the sim (aside from the commish). Though it could be to your benefit as well as mine for a couple reasons. First, you will have better control over your lineups. Second, you will be able to examine the stats for your team and players in a vast number of ways. If you do decide to puchase the sim, contact the Comish first, there is a referral program which can save you $20 off the price. Q: How are the games run? A: The games are simulated by Diamond Mind Baseball software and I will e-mail out all the boxscores in MS Word format. These boxes will have all the same info you see in daily newspaper boxscores. Standings and playoffs are decided the same way as in the MLB Q: How does the software work? Does it use last years stats, career stats? A: The program uses a combination of career stats and last year's stats as well as projections/expectations for the coming season. Q: How many players can I have? A: Each team has 35 players, 25 active and 10 inactive. Q: What's the difference? A: Only players on the Active Roster can play. Players on the inactive roster are there in case of injuries or as prospects for the future. Q: Can I split the players differently? Have more players on my active and less on my inactive or vice versa? A: You cannot at any time have more than 25 players on the Active roster. You can, however, have more players on your inactive provided you don't go over the 35 player total limit (I.E. 23 active and 12 inactive) Q: When do box scores, trades, free agent pickups and stats come out? I know this is not a precise science, but an idea of what parameters are used (Age? production? Minor league level?) would be helpful. I sent this question to Diamond Mind, below is the response... We start with all players that appeared in at least one major league game in 2002. We try to include as many of the top prospects as possible. We use sources like Baseball America, John Sickels' Baseball Prospect Book (formerly the STATS Minor League Scouting Notebook), and more to identify the top prospects. It's important to note that we don't include players that have not had a fairly significant amount of playing time above single-A unless they make a team's opening day roster. This is why Mark Prior was not included on last year's projection disk. He actually had not played at any minor league level until this year so we had nothing to go on. It is possible that we will change our methods to allow us to project low-level minor league prospects, but I can't say for sure. We also look at 40-man rosters to include other prospects that don't get hyped but could contribute soon. In those cases, we will not include a second-tier prospect if his minor league performance was awful unless he is expected to contribute to a major league team that season. As you said, it is far from an exact science but we do our best to include the big name prospects and the players most likely to contribute at the major league level in the upcoming season. |
