| Team Profile/History - One of the original 30 GM's. Like AZ, Dave has dominated the NL East (a fairly weak divison) for most of the season. Unlike AZ, he'd probably still lead it even if it wasn't so weak. Lineup - A pretty good lineup, though it has some holes. Lofton won't be able to leadoff again, he's pretty much washed up and doesn't belong on a contender. Don't understand Aurilia batting cleanup with Ken Harvey in the 5 hole? Ahead of Ordonez? Bench - No big bats on the bench, but not a real concern, you want your big bats in the lineup, not on the bench. Good defense though, especially from Sanchez who could start on several teams. Defense - Harvey has poor range at 1B, but is the only real hole. Lofton, Aurilia and Cairo are all decnt fielders. No exceptional arms on the team, be it in the OF or behind the plate, average all around. Rotation - Glavine is still a scary lefty. He's old, but until he starts to show it, it's not an issue. Weaver is a walking bomb, overachieved early in the season in the MLB, then blew up. a better pticher with a lesser workload. Rest of the starters are nothing special, but nothing that will blow up in your hand either. Bullpen - A weak spot, Rodriguez is a great reliever, the rest of the pen is mediocre at best. SUppan and Arrojo are fair backups to the rotation though you wouldn't want to start either consistently. Minors - Top prospect is Josh Hamilton who has turned into a walking DL this season. Better hope it's not a career pattern, though if it's an issue this young, it doesn't look good. Overall Grade - B+/A- I couldn't make up my mind either way. A weak pen makes it hard to give an !-, though tyou can't argue with the results and aside from the pen it is a pretty well rounded team. Over/Under Over - Rich Aurilia, 11hrs in the MLB, 24 in the sim. .258 avg in the MLB, .291 in the sim. Under - Magglio Ordonez just stinking it up in the sim, hitting .251 Prescription - could use a bulpen arm, maybe another 'sure thing' starter to go with Glavine for playoff time |
