With
a population of approximately 165 million, Pakistan is the sixth most populous
country in the world. According to the data released by the World Bank in 2004,
Pakistan ranks 25th amongst nations based on gross domestic product normalized
for purchasing power parity. With a solid agricultural foundation, rapidly
advancing infrastructure, expanding industrial base and a burgeoning IT sector,
Pakistan is fast becoming a strong player in the global economy. Pakistan is one of the world’s fastest growing economies, with a 6.4% real GDP growth in fiscal year 2003-2004 and over 8.4% real GDP increase in fiscal year 2004-2005. Compare this to the international benchmark growth economy of China that had a 9.5% expansion for the same time period. Large scale manufacturing in Pakistan is growing at an average rate of 16.8%. This growth has been broad based with most manufacturing sub-sectors registering a double-digit expansion. being one of the best performing markets of the world according to Business
Week. USA Today has noted Karachi Stock as one of the best performing exchanges
in the world. Karachi also boasts one of the largest seaports in the region and

Low Labor Costs |
With average labor rates of 25 - 55 cents per hour, the cost of labor in Pakistan is one of the cheapest in the world. By comparison, Chinese manufacturing workers make 50 cents to $1 per hour. Mexican factories pay about $2 an hour and hourly wages for manufacturing workers in United States range from $9 - $27 per hour (Comparisons in US$). Pakistan also benefits from a growing supply of skilled workers and engineers. |
