TWIN CRESCENTS

Close the gap between the worlds

It was unexpected that Risco and Glynn, two dreaming children, would ever cross paths. They had never met before, but that would soon change. In a place where one can live out their dreamlike states, a war has been brewing between the Dream and Nightmare worlds. Each person who sleeps is randomly selected to enter either one of these areas through a deprivation highway during their sleep. If one is unable to reach either place, they are enclosed in a capsule hanging in space, eventually resulting in an obstruction of the highway.

Since the Dream and Nightmare worlds have been warring over territorial disputes, it has been causing many of these capsules to form. Recently, more and more capsules have been formed, creating a blockage in the highway. All over the globe, millions of people have been unable to travel and enter the dream worlds in their subconscious due to this problem. However, Risco and Glynn have been the exceptions. They somehow managed to get through the capsule road block and are the only ones to arrive in a long time. This is their story...

Risco rode his bike to the nearest market and picked up a few items his mom told him to buy. Upon arriving home, his mom was already waiting for him at the front door. He dropped off the items with her and headed to his room. He threw himself onto his bed and growing tired, fell asleep without a moment's notice. In his dreams, he was traveling through a series of pathways that lead him to a darkened place he had never seen before.

"Where am I?" he wondered. Suddenly, two shadowy figures snatched him from behind and took him to a nearby castle-like building. He was brought in front of a larger figure in a black cape and spiked uniform.

"Who are you?" the dark figure asked him. "Risco," the boy answered. "Ah, you must be a dreamer, we haven't seen your kind here in a long time," the figure explained, "I'm Vulz, leader of the Nightmarish Land." Risco looked at his garb. "Why are you dressed like that?" he asked Vulz. "We're in war with the Dream World," the leader explained angrily, "They accused us of causing the capsules that hang above us to happen." The leader called to arms his army and began to march toward the Dream World border. Risco was put in a prison cell.

Glynn was in her backyard planting flowers and watering the plants. The sun was beating down and she needed a break. She went inside and greeted her dog before heading into her bedroom. Glynn grew very tired and fell asleep in no time. In her dreams, she was traveling through a bizarre highway and then stopped in a place that looked very familiar. She had been here before, a lush environment that was teeming with life.

All of a sudden, a tall man in a white robe approached her. "Are you a dreamer?" the man asked. "Yes, is this place what I think it is?" Glynn asked. "You are in the Dream World," he said, "I am Logus, leader of the Dream World and enemy of Vulz and his kind."

Glynn was confused. "Who is Vulz?" she asked him. "He is the commander of the Nightmarish army, and he is coming this way." Logus took Glynn with him to his castle to see something. It was his own army, ready for combat. "We are taking every precaution and we will not take any prisoners," he explained, "Remain here and wait for my return." Logus and those under his command marched onward. Glynn looked out the balcony and saw a darkened place in the distance. It was the Nightmarish Land.

Risco began to get bored in the prison. He made shadow puppets with what little light came into the room. All of a sudden a bright body of light bursted inside the cell. A form of a man started to take shape. It surprised Risco. It was a mysterious man.

"Who are you? Where'd you come from?" Risco asked him. "My name's Biro," the man said, "I'm one of the creators of this place." Risco stood up. "Why are you here?" he asked Biro. "I've come to warn you about the two warring nations," Biro said, "There's not much time. Come with me." Biro placed his hand on Risco's shoulder, and the bright light surrounded both of them. They ended up where Glynn was in Logus' castle.

Biro explained that the dream worlds cannot exist without both the dream and nightmare worlds. "Risco and Glynn, you two miraculously came here when the highway was closed off. The Dream and Nightmarish armies are trying to crush each other, and if they do, no one will be able to sleep. The dream worlds will be in chaos and everyone will have no place to dream. They would not listen to me, but perhaps they will to you."

Risco and Glynn were still confused. "How do we stop this war?" asked Glynn. "You will know," explained Biro, "And when you do, I will do my part." Risco and Glynn both ran together to where the armies were going to meet.

The armies met on the border of both worlds. Each army was ready to make the first move, about to attack one another. Biro transported Risco and Glynn to the battlefield, between the two armies. "Stop!" yelled Risco. The two armies brought their weapons down.

"Listen, you two cannot destroy each other. If you do, no one awake can ever come here. Destroy one world, and both worlds will collapse," explained Risco. "The people you see in the capsules above us, they are unable to wake up. Those fortunate enough to not be held in one of the capsules cannot fall asleep. If you continue fighting, even the land of awake will be in peril," Glynn added. The two armies stopped in their tracks.

"Now Biro!" yelled Risco. Biro appeared in the air and began to reform the landscape. Risco and Glynn closed their eyes. The capsules began to burst, releasing millions of dreaming people held in for so long. The highway was finally cleared, allowing dreamers to come in and out of their subconsciousness.

When Risco and Glynn opened their eyes, Biro appeared before them. "Thank you both," he said, "Only of your own free will to want to continue dreaming was this possible, now everything is back to where it used to be." Glynn asked him, "So what happens to us now?" Biro held his hands up. "It's time for you two to finally wake up," he said.

Risco and Glynn both woke up in a hospital. They were in a coma for weeks. They were lying in beds across from each other, not knowing who the other was.
