A Conference Dedicated to Reclaiming Our Faith, Communities for Social Justice: Sunday, OCtober 4 (St. Francis Day), 1:30-5:30 p.m., at the Roman Catholic Pastoral Center, 40 North Main Street, Albany. "Be Revolutionary--Practice Your Faith." Objectives: "to join together in truth and love, removing obstacles and aoundaries which prevent us from serving God and our communities with a faith-based perspective. We seek to awaken our faith communities to responsible social action, bringing a voice of compassion, devotion and truth to public decision-making...." Keynote speakers: the Rev. Arleon Kelley, recently retired from the NYS Community of Churches, and Dr. Helen DesFosses, Educator and current President of the Albany Common Council. Cost $5. Primary Day September 15: Exercise your right to vote! A voter guide about the U.S. Senate primary candidates has been prepared by Peace Action of New York State, 33 Central Avenue., Albany. Call 436-1163 or visit their website at www.webcom.com/peaceact/.

Candidate Civility Campaign: The Capital District Chapter of the Interfaith Alliance is conducting a civility pledge campaign for candidates running for public office. Some 115 candidates have been invited to sign the pledge. As of August 18, 32 positive responses have been received. The text of the pledge is as follows:

"As a Candidate for Public Office, I pledge the following:

1. To share my vision for the common good with straightforward speech and civil behavior that extends justice and respect for others.

2. To refuse to participate in personal attacks on my opponents, either by character assassination and innuendo, or other techniques of divisiveness and control.

3. To create opportunities for fair and reasoned public debate on the issues of public concern.

Interfaith Service Against Violence: October 1, 7:20 p.m., Evangelical Protestant Church, Alexander & Clinton Sts., South End, Albany. All are invited to participate in this interfaith service to affirm each person's dignity and to stand against all violence, including the death penalty. Light refreshments will follow. Clergy are invited to vest and process. For information, call Catholic Charities at 453-6650.
