Getting to Know Other Religions - Rev. Herbert J. Murray, Jr. will teach a course on "Understanding Other Religious Traditions" at the Baptist Retirement Center, Scotia, starting April 16 and running through June 18. The course, sponsored by the Capital Area Baptist Association, will be presented Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. Course fee is $55, plus textbook cost. Call 374-0288 for details.

College of St. Rose Students Sponsor Benefit - Circle-K, an intercollegiate service organization located at the College of St. Rose, will be holding an all night Dance Marathon on April 17 from 11 p.m. until 9 a.m. to benefit Kamp Kiwanis. Welfare Reform in Albany County - Sister Lee, Ed Bloch, Rev. Ward Greer, and representatives from Catholic Charities and other non-profit and civic groups will meet with Commissioner Ross Prinzo to learn what welfare reform initiatives the county is considering. Members of Interfaith Alliance want to discuss the role that faith based groups and institutions could play in welfare-to-work programs. Do we have something to offer? As tutors, mentors, job coaches, employers, service providers, advocates, sponsors? Let's start raising these questions for reflection.

County Welfare Plans Are to Have Public Input - Each county is supposed to submit a welfare-to-work implementation plan to the State DOL by May 8. The draft is to be ready for public comment by April 10. Ask your county for a copy of the plan and review it. Let's share ideas at our next meeting.

Conference on Work and Poverty, June 1-3 at SUNY Albany - A variety of state and local groups including education, labor, service providers, advocates, recipients, county ans state level officials, are putting on a conference to examine welfare to work experience, policy, programs. Mark your calendar and look into your congregation to encourage participation.

Bus Trip to U.N. - Westminster Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a bus trip to the U.N. on April 15. There will be seminars on human rights and the Mid-East. The cost is $20. The bus leaves at 7 a.m. from Westminster Church, 85 Chestnut St., Albany and returns 9 p.m. For information call Assoc. Pastor David Schreffler, 436-8544.

Witness for Peace - is sending delegates to Nicaragua with a focus on free trade and human rights. The delegates will work for labor rights upon their return home. The trip will be from June 23-July 3 and the cost is $698 plus airfare to Nicaragua. Application deadline is April 18. For more information contact Joanne Ranney, P.O. 47, Richmond, VT, 05477, tel. Interfaith Meditation Continues - All interested people are invited to participate in the Tuesday night meditation at 7 to 8 p.m., Trinity Temple, 279 Whitehall Rd., Albany. Call Rev. Donna Shannon (489-7119) or John Amidon (482-1562) for details.

Join the Interfaith Alliance of New York State - The Interfaith Alliance is organized to give mainline churches, synagogues, mosques and temples the means to share their traditional and compassionate concerns on issues of peace and justice. Next Meeting of the Interfaith Alliance - Don't miss our next meeting where we vote on a candidate pledge letter, plan our October conference, and discuss welfare reform at the county level.
