InterFaith
Settlement Organisation Plan

1. History of Organisation
i. InterFaith Movement
This InterFaith Settlement is a
comparatively recent extension of the contemporary InterFaith Movement. The
contemporary InterFaith
Movement is conventionally considered to have begun more than one hundred years
ago through the convening of the first Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago, Illinois. Since this initial InterFaith
meeting, numerous organisations and conferences have emerged to facilitate
continuing dialogue and interaction between religious leaders and organisations
from different religious traditions and to improve mutual tolerance, mutual
understanding, mutual wellbeing, and mutual amicability amongst the respective
adherents of these religious traditions.

Some of the earliest established, and
continuing, InterFaith Institutions include the International Association for
Religious Freedom (Oxford, England), www.iarf.net, and the World
Congress of Faiths (London, England), www.WorldFaiths.org. Additional InterFaith Institutions of note
include the World Conference of Religions for Peace (New York, New York), www.wcrp.org, the Council for a Parliament of
the World’s Religions (Chicago, Illinois), www.cpwr.org, and the United
Religions Initiative (San
Francisco, California), www.uri.org.
This InterFaith Movement involves the international community of all
continents and adherents of the five predominant Faiths of Judaism, Hinduism,
Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam, as well as adherents of additional Faiths
including Sikhism and the Baha’i.
