The Statistics on Pancreatic Cancer
Thankfully, the amount of people diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer each year is slowly decreasing. It is believed that this is because the amount of smokers has also been decreasing. Based on estimates, around 32, 180 United States citizens will be newly diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer this year.
Based on studies, a sad 31,800 U.S. citizens will be killed this year by this disease. If this estimation comes true, Pancreatic cancer will be the fourth most fatal type of cancer.
Within 1 year of being diagnosed, 87 percent of all patients will die. Only 4 percent will withstand any chance of living another 5 years. Almost all of these victims will be above 50 years in age.
Below is a line graph showing the death rates of Pancreatic cancer for men and women between the years 1997 to 2001.
This graph shows how as the age of the patient at the time of diagnosis increases, so does the death rate. It also proves that more males are killed each year compared to females. In average, 95 men and 85 women above or around the age of 85 were killed every day by Pancreatic cancer in the U.S during 1997-2001. This terrible fact is what makes Pancreatic cancer the fourth most deadly cancer.
