There have been several cases concerning Munchausen by Proxy syndrome. One of those is of Mary Boot, who, as an adult, went public with her story. As a child, Mary's mother abused her in order to gain attention and approval from others. when she was 10 years old, she finally confronted her mother and demanded the abuse end. To her surprise, it did, but the emotional scars remained until she sought counseling several years later.
