"Disciple" was based upon the Charity Miranda case. Miranda's mother, Vivian, and older sister, Serena, had begun practicing santeria shortly before Miranda's death. Miranda had the flu and lost 10 pounds during the last week of her life, prompting her mother and sister to believe she was possessed by demons. On January 18, 1998, the Long Island cheerleader was suffocated by her mother and older sister during an exorcism. Vivian Miranda was found to be insane in March 1999 and will most likely spend the rest of her life in a maximum security psychiatric hospital.
