This is one of those "Ripped Off" from the Headlines cases. The detectives are investigating a case from 1981 (the real case occurred in 1975). The victim is Mary Beth Mosely (real: Martha Maxley) and was killed by Michael Sarno (real: Michael Skakel). In the fictional case, the defendant's father is an ambassador; in real life, the defendant is related to the Kennedys. An interesting aside, noted by Tami....the lead detective on the fictional case is Tommy Brannigan. The real detective was Thomas Keegan.The murder weapon on the show is a ratchet; in real life, a golf club. Sarno confesses to the killing while in a rehab group therapy session; Skakel is rumored to have confessed during a similar session.
