Maximo is a Computerized Maintenance and Material Management System. It stores and maintains data about your plant or facility, and uses that data to provide you with useful information. This information helps you analyze costs and equipment status, manage inventory and labor resources, and plan maintenance activities.

The MAXIMO main menu consists of 12 icons each of which represents a module, or area of functionality.
Applications
Most modules include multiple applications, each of which is a subset of the module's functionality. Functionally there are two types of applications in MAXIMO. Some applications function to build the database, while others enable you to act upon the database.
Although many applications either build or act upon the database, some applications can do both. For example, you can initiate the reorder process (an action) in the Materials Control application,
although it functions primarily as a repository of inventory information.
Despite the overlapping functionality in some applications, this grouping provides us with a useful way to look at how MAXIMO works.
