REPUBLICA BOLIVARIANA DE VENEZUELA

EMBAJADA EN JAMAICA

INSTITUTO VENEZOLANO PARA LA CULTURA Y LA COOPERACIÓN

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE

1.     Course: Our Spanish program comprises 12 levels of 40 hours each (approximately tow and a half months per level). Upon completion of all 12 levels, the student will receive a DIPLOMA recognized by several educational institutions in Jamaica and in Venezuela..

2.     Class Attendance: Since our courses are complimentary, we require that the students attend a minimum of 75% of classes each term, that is to say 17 classes out of 20. Students with less than 75% of class attendance for the term will not be permitted neither to continue the course nor register for next term. They will have to wait two terms to be eligible to register.

Poor attendance, persistent late attendance and any other action that disrupts classes will indicate lack of interest. Classes begin on the hour and last 90 min. Unavoidable absences should be reported to the course instructor accompanied by an official written excuse[1]. It is important to mention that students could only present 2 (two) excuses during a term and 1 deferral during a year.

3.     Evaluations and passing grade: Students are required to complete all evaluation exercises including scheduled exams and class assignments in accordance with the dates and times indicated in advance in the syllabi. Instructors are prompted by the administration not to repeat tests. The minimum passing grade is 15 out of 20 (75% out of 100%).

Failing students at the end of a term must wait two terms to be accepted back at the Institute.

4.     Non-registered Persons: Students are asked not to bring children, guests or other non-registered persons to class. This is due mostly to a problem of space.

5.     Placement Test: All new students with prior knowledge of the language are required to take a written and oral placement test. This test only takes place during registration periods. If the teacher considers that a student could be promoted to another level, he/ she will inform the coordinator for re-evaluation.

6.     Assigned Classes: Prior to the beginning of a term, students will be assigned to courses according to availability, but these class schedules may be subject to change. It is only upon completion of the placement tests that we can definitely determine how many courses will be offered, and if there will be changes to the regular student lists.

Students who have indicated a preference for course in which fewer than fifteen (15) people have registered could be reassigned to other courses.

7.     Suggestions, problems and/or complaints: Suggestions may be given to your instructor or to the Coordinator. If there is any problem or complaint, students should discuss it first with the class instructor and if this is not solved, they should see the Coordinator at the office.

8.     Cell Phones: Students are requested to keep their cell phones OFF or in SILENT mode during class times. If you use the silent mode, please do not answer while the class is in progress.

9.     Acceptance of Conditions: Date and sign these conditions if you agree with the content stated herein.
