Mission Statement

The Christian Bible Institute (CBI) exists primarily to
provide training for men and women who are called to the
Ministry. A working knowledge of the scripture is necessary
to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19). Therefore,
C.B.I. is committed to nurturing and equipping men and
women to do the work of the Ministry. Helping each student
comprehend the Word of God while enhancing a vital and effective
relationship with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. C.B.I. is a
non-denominational school that believes the Bible to be the
final authority and the Holy Spirit is our guide.

Statement of Purpose

Christian Bible Institute (CBI) is designed to equip lay
leadership within the Local church. Our goal is to train
you in the Word of God, help you develop your God given
talents to enable you effectively fulfill the Great
Commission (Matthew 28:19).

STATEMENT OF FAITH

	1. God is the infinite personal Spirit, who has
revealed Himself as a Trinity in unity, exisiting
eternally as Father, Son, and Spirit--three
           persons yet but One God.

	2. The Bible, including both the Old and New
Testaments, is divine revelation, the original
autographs of which were inspired by the Holy
Spirit, so that the words were kept from error.

	3. Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God,
which is to say, He is Himself very God; He
took upon Him our nature, being conceived by
           the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary;
He died upon the cross as a substitutionary
sacrifice for the sins of the world; He arose
from the dead in the body in which He was
crucified; He ascended into Heaven in that body
glorified, where He is now, our interceding
High Priest; He will come again personally and
visibly to set up His kingdom and to judge the
           quick and the dead.

	4. Man was created in the image of God, but fell
into sin, and in that sense is lost; this is
true of all men, and except a man be born again,
he cannot see the Kingdom of God; salvation is
by grace through faith in Christ who in Himself
bore our sins in His own body on the tree; that
retribution of the wicked and unbelieving, and
the reward of the righteous are everlasting; and
as the reward is conscious, so is the retribution.

	5. The Church is an elect company of believers
baptized by the Holy Spirit into one body, each
believer living his life in the power of the Holy
Spirit; its mission being to witness concerning
its head Jesus Christ, teaching and preaching the
           the Gospel to all nations.

	6. The entire program of Christian training is
evangelical. It finds its reason for being, and
its goal, in bringing individuals to accept
Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, in helping a
Christian grow in grace and in the knowledge of
our Lord Jesus Christ and in equipping Christians
           for more effective service.

GENESIS: CHAPTER I

The Bible is the worlds best seller. The message of God is very vital to man and Bible translators have produced parts of the Scriptures in more than 1,200 languages. At least 95% of the worlds population has portions of the Scriptures in a language available to them.

Why do we study the Old Testament?

We study Old Testament because Christianity finds its beginning in the Old Testament scriptures.

To go one step further the Jewish faith and the Muslim faith also have their beginnings in the Old Testament Scripture.

Today most Christians want to study the New Testament and neglect the Old Testament.

A statement of fact: if a student wants to really understand the New Testament, he or she must study and understand the Old Testament.

The Old testament provides:
a. The historical background for the scriptures.
b. It is the book of the beginnings.

Why is Genesis referred to as the book of the beginnings?

Genesis means beginnings and is derived from Genesis 2:4.

Genesis 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heaven.

Genesis Chapter 1 vs. 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

How should we understand the word create?

God started creating from his Word. God has the power and the ability to create from the spoken Word. The power to create was in the spoken word that proceeded out of the mouth of God.

All the other creations always started from some object.

There is a law in science that states that energy cannot be destroyed or created but it can only be transformed from one form of energy to another.

For example a chair is created from wood.

Another example:

When we burn wood at the fire place it gives out heat energy; the heat then heats up the house. A transformation has taken place from wood energy to heat energy.

John 1:1&2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.

John 1: 14 And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the father) full of Grace and truth.

In studying the Old Testament the student must understand that the grace of God was in operation throughout the history as God continued His dealings with mankind. The God of the Old Testament is not to be viewed as the God of wrath and judgment but we should also see the God of the Old Testament as the God of mercy and grace.

I will ask this question again: Why should we study the Old Testament?

a. Paul used the Old Testament effectively as he tried to convince the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

b. Jesus and the Apostles constantly used the Old Testament scriptures in their teachings.

c. There are approximately 600 Old Testament scripture references in the New Testament.

d. Neither human nature nor Gods nature has changed since the Old Testament.
