21 years later... Kian and Tonya kicked back on the couch, weary from the day's activities.
"Why did we say we'd have the party here? It went from 'We'll take care of
everything Mam' to 'Sorry, we've got a gig. We'll clean up later'" Tonya
said laughing. It was very nice that their twin boys had thrown them a 20th Anniversary
party with Shane & Hilary's kids. Evan and Jaron Egan were in the biggest
rock band Ireland had ever seen since U2 and they were only 18, their parents
were extremely proud of them. "Aye, but they're good kids. They just like a
good craic, just like the old man" Kian said patting himself on the chest.
People couldn't believe they had kids that old since they still looked so young
themselves, age being nothing but a number. " It was so great to have everyone here today, it felt like a reunion. Watching
the wedding video made me laugh so hard, I didn't think Hilary was ever going to
speak to us again." T said snuggling against Kian's chest. "No, she was cool with it eventually. Your wedding day is something you
dream about for ages, and we nearly blew it in a matter of minutes." he
said giggling like a schoolgirl. ~Flashback~ "Where the hell is Egan?! He had one job, go pick up the rings. Why
isn't he back yet?" Shane said pacing the vestibule. "He'll be here Shay. He knows better than to feck up your day. Hilary
would hunt him down and hurt him anyway." Nicky said dryly. It was less than 10 minutes to Shane and Hilary's wedding , the one they had
planned every last detail down to a tee. The one that had been planned for one
year and was rumoured to be one of the most expensive weddings ever held in
Ireland. The one that wouldn't start on time if Kian didn't find the rings he
had misplaced. "He wasn't even supposed to have them, how did he lose them?" Bryan
asked, "He liked the style of mine and wanted to have one made up for
himself. Should have said 'NO' right then." Just then Kian came flying in and a cheer arose from the groomsmen. "I
was just about to send out a search party. Where have you been?" Kian wiped the light sheen of perspiration from his brow, "Sorry, I had
a little side trip to the courthouse. I just got married." "WHAT?!" Hilary and her bridal party were off to the side waiting for the big moment.
Just then Tonya went running by, fixing her hat which sat askew on her head. She
came back and smiled brightly, "You look sooo beautiful Hils! What a
stunning bride you make." then went back into the church. One of Shane's brothers took her arm, "Bride or Groom?" With a huge grin she said, "Bride". It all started because Tonya had gotten a note from Megan that morning that
she had run off to Italy with Alberto, and she didn't even say goodbye.
"How could she do that Kian, my best friend just up and leaves me. After
all we had been through and she never once mentions moving to Italy. Ok, she did
but... I didn't think she was serious. I'm going to be bummed all through the
ceremony and that sucks." Kian hugged her close, he needed to cheer her up and fast. "We'll just
have to make her feel bad that she left. Let's go get married." "When?" "Now. City Hall is open, we can do this and still make Shane's do. Will
you?" Tonya was flustered but excited, it was so crazy it might be possible.
"We don't have rings" and Kian went to his top drawer and pulled out
Hils and Shane's rings. "We couldn't use theirs, that would be so wrong" and they both
giggled with glee. "You used me rings. You bastard, what am I to use?" "Your rings. We picked up some of our own on the way over." and
handed Shane back his rings. "That was so wrong, but congratulations are in order. Where's that
bottle of bubbly we had? Oh yah, I finished it. We'll get another, hold on"
Mark said dashing from the room. "Why does this feel like a bad romantic comedy?" Shane said staring
at the bands that felt tainted now. "This is it, my day." Hilary said walking down the aisle towards
Shane. He looked so handsome, tears formed at her eyes. Gently dabbing at her
eyes she reached for Shane's hand and he gave her a warm smile. He whispered,
"Kian and Tonya got married this morning." and Hilary's eyebrows shot
up. The ceremony started and everything was going smoothly until Kian had to act
up. He discreetly waved to Tonya using his ring finger, a grin making his face
beam. Trying to be equally cool she raised her hand slightly and did the same.
As luck would have it Ann just happened to look out from the altar then and saw
the flash of platinium, and she started coughing. Which became choking and
everyone turned to her. "Are you alright?" Georgina asked and she shook her head no. "Tonya...Kian... wedding band... air." and now everyone looked at
Kian. "Yeah, we got married. Move along the ceremony." A yell came out from the crowd. "You got married and we weren't
invited?! You have some explaning to do Kian John Francis Egan" and his mom
started to cry. "Awww Mam, it wasn't like that. I'm sorry Da, I really am." Now Hilary was close to tears, "This is our day dammit." That got everyone's attention and Shane wiped the tears from her face.
"Quite right. Father, continue on please" but there was one last
interruption. "Holy shit, it's Michael Jackson!" Bryan said not caring that they
were in the house of the Lord. "I told you he was coming" Shane said triumphantly until he got
smacked. "I told you not to invite him, he's a freak" Hilary whispered to
which he calmly said "He's the greatest performer of our time. It's an
honor." Eventually the ceremony finished and the reception was almost anticlimactic. Back to present time "It only took a couple of months before she spoke to us again. Besides
now we all have beautiful kids, great friends, and healthy sex lives. What else
could we want?" Kian said pulling Tonya onto his lap. "I'm pretty much set. Ready to make our annual journey to London?" "Yes, I've packed the car and our plane tickets are right here."
And off they went to the Tower of London, where it all started so long ago.
