Chapter 5

The night was too warm to sleep and Kimberly felt restless so she decided to take a walk. The moon shone brightly overhead as she roamed her family's land aimlessly, not really caring that she was out in just her silky nightgown. She missed her home in South Carolina and wished the War had never started, taking her father to battle for something he didn't believe in. He was however a true gentleman and fought in the South's honor leaving Kimber and her mother in no man's land. The West had it's charms but it just wasn't somewhere she was comfortable yet. There was one spot she enjoyed and that was the pond her father had installed with trees and flowers surrounding it, her own peaceful oasis. She was surprised to say the least when she got near enough to see some guy already there, the nerve of them! She had a good mind to tell him off. She was just about to when he stood up and started to take off his shirt and jeans and Kimber ducked behind a tree. It was so wrong of her but her curiosity got the better as she peeked around the corner and watched his toned body cut through the water effortlessly. "Lord save me, I want to sin." she said to herself as he ran his hands through his wet hair.

Climbing out of the water Mark swore there was someone watching, he'd been out here every night and had never gotten this feeling before. He shook the water off and as he bent for his towel he spotted her in the trees, blue eyes wide with interest. He stretched leisurely and drawled, "Are you enjoying the show?" as Kimber gasped.

"Oh my..." she said guiltily and covered her flaming cheeks, but took one last look before turning away. She was mortified to hear him chuckle.

"I'm decent now." Walking from the trees she put her head down as she walked towards him, hands behind her back like a child caught being naughty.

"I didn't expect anyone here." It was his turn to draw in his breath, she was gorgeous and the swim became entirely useless because he was as hot as ever. She looked up with smiling eyes and her auburn hair
caught the moonbeams making her glow. She probably had no idea her gown was see-through in that light and he had to turn away, looking back to his book he'd brought.

"Breathe Feehily." he thought as she sat at the tree directly next to him.

"We should probably start over. I'm Kimberly Mahaffey and I've been away for the past couple of months. And you are..."

"Mark Feehily, been here about a month or so and bound to get fired if anyone knows I'm here with you."

She laughed and he grinned back at her, Kian had to be wrong. "No way, they wouldn't dare do anything to piss me off. Haven't you heard I'm the princess." and she winked. Good to know she had a sense of humor. She leaned back and pulled her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. "Do you ever wish you could be somewhere else so bad it hurts?"

"I do. I'd give anything to be in Ireland just like it used to be." She turned to see his baby face looking upwards as if searching for an answer and couldn't resist the urge to touch his face. The movement made her nightgown strap slip off her shoulder and Mark pushed it back up with shaking fingers, he'd die to touch her. "I've got to go." he said standing up like he was burned and ran off, leaving Kimber more alone than she had ever felt before.
