Chapter 23

“She asked me if I was alright earlier,” Steph whispered.

“Awwww, how sweet of her, I had a five minute conversation with her when we were checking in, she was telling me all about how she modelled in Milan.” Karen continued the conversation.

Mel rolled her eyes, for the last ten minutes her friends had been discussing nothing else but how perfect in every way Ella was – she wasn’t sure how much more she could take of it – much more and she was going to storm out and then their hiding place would be revealed.

The girls were all sat on the cold concrete by Karen’s car, their eyes fixed firmly to the main doors to the Swallow hotel in Cardiff.

“Yeah and then she said that she loved my hair,” Steph continued.

“Really, awwww she’s so sweet.”

Mel snapped, “for gods sake, can we stop talking about how fucking perfect Gabriella is for just one bloody second and pay more attention to what we are supposed to be doing.”

Karen raised her eyebrows at Steph but did as instructed and both girls fell into silence.

They had been sat like this for the past half an hour, ever since Mel had been down in reception and had over heard Del talking quietly into his mobile about an after show party.  The boys had obviously felt a need to let their hair down before the tour moved on to London.

As they had no idea where it was the only way they were gong to get to go along was to wait for the boys to leave the hotel and then follow them in the car to the party location.

“Was that the door?” Mel asked suddenly, trying to focus her eyes against the darkness.

“Nope, think it was just me moving, I had cramp in my foot,” Steph explained, “how much longer do we have to sit here for, its cold and really uncomfortable.”

Mel ignored her mutterings, jumping lightly to her feet and creeping further towards the hotel entrance, “it was them,” she confirmed, “they are making their way to the car.”

“Go, go, go” Karen announced and quickly throwing the car door open and hopping into the drivers seat.

“Wow, just like James Bond,” Steph giggled as she followed Karen’s lead and threw the seat to the back door open, “ we should synchronise our watches.”

The girls bundled into the car and gently closed the doors.  Taking a deep breath Karen turned the car engine on.

“Shhhhh! Steph hissed.

“Sorry! You try making a car start quietly,” Karen said, letting the clutch up and allowing the car to creep forward slightly.

The prev left the hotel car park and Karen crept silently after them, until she met with the main road and they could breath a little easier again.

“Hope they aren’t going too far,” Steph remarked, “it’ll be hard to keep up with them.”

“We’ll manage,” Karen replied determinedly pressing down on the gas a bit further and watching the speed dial rock up to 50 mph.

“Looks like we’re heading out of the city centre anyway,” Mel remarked, “knowing the guys their party is probably in some barn somewhere.”

“Do you think that Del has noticed we are following?”

“Don’t think so,” Karen said, glancing at them in her mirror, “if he knew he’d be absolutely livid.”

“Yep, there’s no way he’d want us at this party,” Steph agreed.

“And if he knew we were following I bet he’d do anything to shake us off.”

As if the car in front had heard it suddenly sped up and zoomed away from them.

“Spoke too soon,”

Karen pressed harder on the gas, keeping up with the more powerful car in front.

“Come on you can do it,” she muttered to the car, stroking its steering wheel affectionately.

They all breathed a sigh of relief as they approached a queue of stationary traffic, the prev was now a little way ahead of them, and this would mean they would catch up with them again.

“Uh oh!” Mel suddenly announced from the back.

“What?”

“That women coming out of the road on the left just ahead?”

The girls all turned to look

“She’s going to pull out in front of us.”

“She can’t!” Karen said firmly, “she’ll get in between us and the prev and then we’ll never be able to follow them.”

“You can’t stop it,” Mel argued, “the gap between us is too big, she’s going to pull out.”

Karen sped the little fiesta up, reaching the turning just as the lady was beginning to shuffle forward into the gap.

“Everyone evil her,” Steph yelled, and her and Mel pressed their faces right against the car window, narrowing their eyes and frowning at her.

The car stayed where it was and Karen managed to slide up right behind a1’s prev.

“Very impressive, didn’t know you two could be that scary.”

“Me neither,” Steph said, impressed by her own skills.

The traffic lights ahead changed green and once again the prev roared away from them.  Karen pressed her foot hard on the gas, weaving in and out of the other cars in an effort to keep up with a1.

“Karen this is a 40 mph zone,” Steph said, as they roared through a flashing sign.

“I know,” she muttered in response, her eyes shifting down to her gage that read 80.

“Blimey, they aren’t even slowing to go round the corners,” Mel noted as they screeched round a 90-degree corner at top speed.

“He’s trying to get rid of us,” Karen noted, “he knows we are following.”

“Bastard”

“I don’t think we are even going the right way at the moment.”

“How can we not be?”

“I think he’s taking us on a cross country to try and shake us off the trail.”

“Bastard!” Steph repeated.

“Roundabout ahead,” Mel announced.

“And they’re signalling right,” Steph said, looking up at the sign next to them, “they are heading back to the city.”

“That is if they are going that way,” Karen said, “hold on to your seats girls.”

Putting on her right indicator the little car screeched on to the roundabout in hot pursuit.  Moving into the inside lane the cars sped quickly round the grass bank, going past the turning they wanted and going around again.

“Bastard!” Mel screeched, clinging onto the seat and trying not to feel sick by the repetitive circular tracks.

After the second circuit of the roundabout the prev sped up before shooting off one of the exits quickly.  Keeping her wits about her Karen quickly followed, managing to keep the prev just in sight.

“What exit was that in the end?” she asked.

“Back towards the city I think,” Steph replied, “although I did begin to get a bit disorientated on that roundabout.”

“He’s such an idiot, there was no need to come all the way out here,” Karen muttered, “we are probably just heading for some club in the city centre now.”

“Can you still see him?” Mel asked.

“He’s almost vanished, can just about see his rear lights.”

As they came into the city and back into the heavy traffic the prev was nowhere to be seen.

“Damn we’ve lost them,” Steph said, “after all that we’ve completely lost them.”

“No its, OK,” Mel suddenly said, “look they are parked over there – this is the club.”

Karen pulled next to the now empty prev and they made their way to the door of “Celestial” hopefully their new home for the evening.

There on the door stood Del, a large clipboard in his hands, he looked up to see them, a frown immediately taking over his face.

“You wasted your time girls, you’re not getting in,” he said, “no fans allowed.”

“But we aren’t normal fans,” Karen protested, “we’re hardly going to bother them are we?”

Del looked down at the list in his hands, “only people on the list are allowed in,” he smirked.

“Unless they are our guests,” a voice piped up from behind him and Mark’s head appeared at the door.

“Mark!” Karen squealed in happiness.

“Heya girls!”

“They can’t come in!” Del repeated more firmly to Mark, “no fans.”

“Awww Del, they are harmless.”

Del looked at them in disbelief, “why do I find that hard to believe?”

A second figure appeared in the shadows, “They are completely harmless Del,”

Mel smiled as she saw Christian also coming to their rescue.

“Let them in,” Mark said smiling at them.

“Yeah come on Del,” Chris said, looking straight at Mel and grinning, “this place could do with livening up.”

Finally defeated Del stepped aside and the three girls followed Mark and Chris into the club.
