| CHAPTER 2 AUTHOR: dreamer April and Grace sat opposite Martha and henry in the warm, cosy living room that Martha had decorated with old exotic statues merged with bright vibrant colours to add a modern flavour to it. Grace had always liked this room, it was vibrant wild. Out there. Now it was just plain annoying. Dinner had been a silent time for thought, April and Grace wondering what they were about to hear and Martha and henry trying to form what to say. Now they sat staring at each other. Wondering. Waiting. �Soo,� began April as she clasped her hands and leaned further back into the sofa to try and get comfortable at what was an awkward uncomfortable time. �What do you guys wanna talk to us about�. �Okay,� said Martha taking a deep breath as if going for a long swim. �It�s about your parents, Jake and Lily�. �What about them?� asked Grace. �Well, we haven�t been totally honest to you about what they did and how they died�. �Meaning�.� said April. She already didn�t like this; she didn�t like Martha�s uneasiness and the topic they were discussing. Their parents� death. There certainly wasn�t any good news coming from that alley. �Meaning� interrupted grace �that they�ve been feeding us a load of lies�. �Grace. Let them finish�, interjected April, she didn�t need grace�s fiery temper right now. Fine, thought Grace, we�ll play it your way A. Restraining herself from saying things she�d later regret, grace took a deep calming breath. �Okay then, what have you been lying to us about?�. Martha and Henry looked at each other nervously, �well, go on,� chided Grace. Don�t be shy now, she added silently. �It�s about your parents� began Martha, �they�um.. They worked for the government�. That was news. �You mean like the FBI or CIA?� asked April. What could be bad about that? �No.. Not really. Not to sound like a bad t.v. Re-run, but your parents, Lily and Jake worked-� she paused, Grace leaned forward anticipating what she was going to say. She couldn�t help it; she was caught up in Martha�s melodramatic tone. Whatever she had to say, it was probably something interesting. �Jake and lily worked for a secret government organisation that investigated weird occurrences around the world and we worked with them,� interrupted Henry. Grace let this statement sink in. A secret government organisation? This wasn�t what she had been expecting, well she didn�t really know what to expect, but this certainly wasn�t one of them. �In 1997, an astronaut on a routine trip to observe the conditions of satellites, picked up some space junk. Among this there was a metallic object with what looked like a combination of Egyptian hieroglyphics, ancient Arabic and some other�um.weird language. This was brought to Lily. In a nutshell, she managed to somehow read it and crack the code. What happened next, was truly out of this world.� Henry stared off into space, looking back to a place in time. Far away yet so fresh in his mind. Something so magnificent yet that only he could see. �The small object cracked in half and then slowly began expanding�then,� Grace watched as his face and voice became animated. Whatever he�s picturing in his mind. It must be a truly awesome sight. �Then a- a blinding white beautiful, light shot out and when we opened our eyes. Where the object was, there was now a shimmering picture of another place. We saw, we saw Minotaurs, fairies and leprechauns everything strange and weird you can imagine. It was incredible. Lily went to touch it and was immediately sucked into it.� �As in sucked in you mean-� began April �Sucked in as in, like she was pulled into it,� finished henry. Right, thought grace with such disbelief that she almost snorted. It was a good story, fun to think about even, but she wondered exactly what Martha and henry had ingested in the past few hours, maybe illegal substances? Before she could fill them in on her theory Martha continued. �Jake followed after her and then the picture disappeared, just disappeared in a blink of an eye,� he added with the same amazement and marvel as he had when it had first happened. � It disappeared, with your parents in it.� �We tried for days to open it again but we couldn�t. Then one day, it just opened and Lily and Jake stepped through and it closed behind them. Then they told us the real head banger, that they had been transported to another dimension. Not just any dimension, but an alternate earth, where you and your descendants come from� �Alternate earth?� asked April as slowly as she could. Nope. It still didn�t register in her brain. �Are you guys nuts?� she asked. She didn�t know why she had sat there and let them talk, she should have left after the first sentence, but she had been curious and amused as to where they were going with their story. But now, now April couldn�t even believe what she was hearing, her parents in a secret government organisation that even the president didn�t know about? An alternate earth? �No April, they�re not nuts,� said Grace. April looked at her in surprise, �they�re just a little bit doped up,� she finished. �I know that this is hard to believe but-� �Hard to believe! What you�re saying is impossible!� exclaimed grace �We know that, but its true and we need you to at least hear us out. Please�, pleaded Martha. Grace took another deep calming breath and said �what the heck, we have nothing better to do, right A?� Afterall if they were doped up, it was better to keep them in the house and let the effects wear off. Grace had always thought this-welcome-to-the family-thing had been too good to be true and now, she was right. She had found a chink in the armour that was her ideal family. �Fine� agreed April reluctantly, �what is alternate earth then?� she asked. Even though her tone was blatantly stating that she was just humouring them, Martha and henry however seemed oblivious to it. �From what your parents told us and what we saw, alternate earth, is were all your fairy tales and myths and legends exist. Thousands of years ago, your descendants, obviously human, existed there with them. But something happened to disrupt this, Zeus and Hera-� �The gods?� asked April �Yeah, but not like modern myth has you believe. They were like the president and first lady of alter earth, they also possessed the power of good. So alter earth prospered no wars, just peace but then they gave birth to 14 children. Don�t ask how. But each with gifts never seen before. Apparently, it was predicted, prophesised from these really old books that from ultimate good would be born the fourteen. Seven children of the light and seven children of the darkness and with them a battle between good and evil would begin and end. As it was prophesised, so it became, the seven evils wanted to destroy alter earth. So Zeus and Hera sent the chosen seven, the children of the light and other humans who knew them to protect them to this earth. With them, they sent the 7 keys which when opened would merge the two universes together, causing evil to rule. They were supposed to be destroyed by the energy it took to transport them here, but on arriving, they scattered still intact. The only way to know where they are, is when trans-dimensional gates open. When things from the other side come here, this is because of the enormous power the keys possess. The object your mother found was one of these gates and the others were activated when she opened this one. According to Kateeron or Kate as we call her. She came back with your parents to help us. Well according to Kate and certain text, it was prophesised that in each generation, seven good and evil would be born and their power would become stronger until it harnessed itself in the seven of the seventh generation where the ultimate battle between the merging of the two worlds would begin and end. Now the only reason your mother was able to open the gate to alter earth, was because, she was one of the descendants. And you two are the seventh generation. You are the chosen ones, the children of the light. Although your mother didn�t know at the time that she was having twins. When the other gates opened, the evil on the either side came through and there were sightings of Minotaurs, vampires whatever else comes out of your nightmares. The Bureau led by Sebastian and Ivan had to push them back into their dimension. Your father and us were away when Ivan became delusional and well a bit mad. He made a deal with the of the rulers of alter earth to rule half of the earth if he helped find the keys and kill the chosen seven.� Martha paused, took a deep breath, then continued as if it caused her great pain. �He knew your mother was pregnant�.he knew who she was, so he kidnapped her and�and was about to-um-to well kill her when she was rescued by your father and Sebastian. Nothing could be done. While we were away, Ivan had taken over, we couldn�t tell anyone so your parents hid. For a while they were free from danger, but when you were 1 year olds, Ivan�he found them and they knew your lives were in danger so, they sent a message to us and left you at a shelter for us to find.� Martha paused sadly, her eyes telling of the great sadness and pain the memories brought to her. �We got the message too late. By the time we came back, your parents had died�. Stunned April asked, "How?". � There had been a fire and your parents had been trapped, we tried to find you but by then, you had been adopted and were hard to track without a lot of explanation and proof, which we didn�t have or couldn�t share. Ivan had brought the seven evils over to this reality and trained them. Sebastian also set up a secret organisation to locate the chosen seven in this reality and teach them how to use their powers, for the battle. We and others joined him and tried to find you but it took us a long time. You two are the last members of the team, your powers activate once you accept and understand who you are so-� �So let me guess,� grace interrupted sceptically. �You want us to come help you save the world�. �I know it�s hard-� �Hard�, laughed grace, �it�s a joke, you know I did think you were you a little good to be true,� she said getting up from the sofa, she folded her arms across her chest, �but I�m not picky, you�re family. So as a family member, I suggest you guys, go see a shrink�. �A good one,� added April, joining grace, �How can you people make up such a horrible lies about our parents! Now I don�t know what you�ve been sniffing or whatever. But right now, I don�t feel comfortable being here, so I�m leaving�. She wasn�t going to stand around while her delusional relatives talked about alternate earth. UFO abductions maybe, but an altar earth? That was stretching it. Turning to grace, she said �You coming?� Grace looked at her aunt and uncle; they weren�t upset or surprised, like they�d been expecting their reaction. How weird was that? Grace didn�t know what was going on, but staying there was a bad idea, she turned to April and replied �let�s go�. Together they marched out and slammed the door behind them. The sound almost echoed within the house. The living room was quiet, �well�, commented henry, �that went well�. He lifted his arm and talked into his wristwatch, �parental units to Gabe, the twins haven�t taken the news serious enough, they just left, keep an eye on them� A crackled voice came back �I have them in my sights, don�t worry, I�ll bring them back in one piece, over and out�. |
