Inspiring Anecdotes

Atheistic theism

Voltaire, the French philosopher and satirist, but a declared atheist, one early morning went out for a long walk into the countryside in the company of a friend who knew him well.

It happened that while he was walking he witnessed a splendid sunrise.

As the sun rose above the horizon in his morning glory, Voltaire startled his companion by bursting into this exclamation of praise: "O God, I adore you!"

Real Sanctity

Once, St Francis of Assisi had to sleep in the house of a rich man.

In the night, the man who had heard about the sanctity of Francis, went stealthily to spy upon the Saint.

Francis spent the whole night in prayer, and was often heard saying: "My God and my all, my God and my all."

That night, the rich man was so moved by what he saw with his own eyes and heard by his own ears, that he not only confirmed the sanctity of Francis but forthwith he even became one of his ardent disciples.
