STORIES THAT STIR

Something beautiful for God

Sunil was an Intermediate Science student. He did well in his studies and was loved by his parents, relatives and friends. Being a Science student, he had a sense of excitement. He took delight in finding solutions to scientific problems. Life for him, was something very exciting and inviting.

With a sense of anxiety, Sunil appeared for the final year examinations. He found the exams rather easy. Months passed by. It was time for the results. To his surprise, he could not find his roll number. Further enquiry revealed that he failed for one subject. He became frustrated and angry. It was the first time that he had met with failure in an examination. He could not accept failure. Soon, he left home for a distant place to end his life.

On his way, he met an old sage. During their short conversation, with all sincerity, the lad told the sage: "I am a failure in life and am going to commit suicide."

The sage said to him, "Dear son, suicide is never a real solution. As a student you took delight in solving problems in Science. Now, take delight in solving the problems of life, because life is more important than Science. You are a failure not because you failed in Science, but in life as you intend to run away from reality and end your life." The sage continued, "Life is a gift from God, and what you make of your life is your gift to God. Offer God something beautiful!" Uttering these words, the sage went his way.

The young man paused awhile and decided to live onnot as a coward who runs away from reality, but as one who faced the reality of life with courage and conviction. As an old man, he could say, "I have something beautifulmy life, to offer my God."
