THOUGHTS GREEN AND CLEAN

If you are about to offer your gift to God at the altar and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar, go at once and make peace with your brother, and then come back and offer your gift to God (Bible: Matthew 5:23-24).

Jesus here teaches us that reconciliation, peace and harmony among ourselves is more important than offering material sacrifices in the temple. If we take the initiative to make peace with our hostile brother, our offering will be more acceptable to God.    George Kaitholil

Charity

While actions are always to be judged by the immutable standard of right and wrong, the judgment we pass upon men must be qualified by considerations of age, country, situation, and other incidental circumstances; and it will then be found, that he who is most charitable in his judgment, is generally the least unjust.

Robert Southey

Single Aim

In studying the wisdom of the sages it is imperative to have one definite aimthat of becoming a true man. The ancients said that he who could will, could always accomplish, and that determination was half the battle. Once we have a definite aim, we become as bowmen with arrows trained on the target, or as travellers already moving toward their destination. In formulating our aims, let us be courageous rather than timid, and seek the truth even as the hungry man seeks food, the thirsty water, allowing nothing to hinder us as we press on toward the goal. Then let him who ventures in the quest for true wisdom be single-minded, with the concentration of a sitting hen or of a cat watching her prey.           Kaibara Ekken
