PASSING ON THE GIFTS WE RECEIVE
Day after day the sun passes
on its light and warmth without fail, providing life and growth to
all kinds of plants and trees. They take them and pass them on to us
as flowers and fruits. Gods love is even more certain and
life-giving. God has wonderful ways of giving us his help through
persons who walk into our lives. An offer of assistance when we are
in a tight situation, a comforting and encouraging word when we are
fighting our way out of our personal tunnels, a visit by a
long-forgotten friend who makes time for us when we are struggling
to cope with our lonelinessare these not gifts people bring to us
from what they have received themselves? They are given to us, so
that, we in turn, pass them on to others who come in contact with
us.
It is not surprising that we often realize we are not able to pay
people back in the measure they gave us. Perhaps they do not expect
it either. Maybe a better way than paying them back is passing on
what we receive. If we pass on even a small portion of what we
receive, we will be contributing something to make the world a
better place and to discover satisfying ways to create a happy life
for ourselves. Like knowledge that increases and grows by diffusion,
anything good we pass on becomes enrichment for others, while it
gives us a sense of joy and satisfaction.
