THEME OF THE MONTH
Sincerity
Unless we are sincere,
it is impossible for us to play straight with others. Our love
for others must be authentic, not simulated. Our niceness should
rise from the heart. It is not with saying Honey, Honey, that
sweetness comes into the mouth. Warm handclasps and fond kisses
need not mean a thing.
We wrong others and that too seriously, when by smiles and
flattery we lead them to think that we cherish their friendship;
whereas, in reality, we are encumbered by it. The day may come
when they need help, and count on us to give it, only to
discover that we are unwilling to inconvenience ourselves for
them. While it is an admirable thing to imitate the kind ways of
generous hearts, it is an ugly thing to counterfeit them.
There is no make-belief about honesty. It must be genuine and
durable. It must survive, unscathed, when there is an
opportunity to steal. It is not enough to be honest the way a
cat iswhen the meat is on the hook!
