INSPIRING ANECDOTES

It is said that Wendell Wilkie asked President Franklin D. Roosevelt, when he visited the President in his office in the White House, "Mr President, why do you keep that frail, sickly man, Harry Hopkins, at your elbow?" Said the President, "Mr Wilkie, through that door flows daily an incessant stream of men and women who, almost invariably want something from me. Harry Hopkins wants only to serve me. That’s why he is so near me?" –Howard H. Hamlin

When little Wilhelmina was crowned Queen of Holland, the happy little girl, too young to realize the gravity of the occasion, with thousands of people cheering her, was unable to take it all in and said, "Mamma, do all these people belong to me?" And the mother smiled and said. "No, my dear child, you belong to all these people." We are in the world to serve it with our most unselfish and helpful service. –Gospel Herald

R.T.H. Laennec invented the stethoscope. Here is a story attached to it:

One day a woman with a heart complaint was brought to the hospital where Laennec was working. In those days doctors would check the heartbeat of a patient by keeping their ear close to the chest of the patient. When Laennec tried to check the woman this way, she demurred. Laennec therefore took a sheet of paper, rolled it into a pipe and kept one end close to the chest of the patient, the other end he kept close to his ear and did the checking. This gave Leannec the idea of the stethoscope.
